I think his expectations about how clean a machine shop/factory should be are a little exaggerated. The way he was talking i was expecting a lot worse, looked to me like nothing you wouldn't see in Europe or the US.

I know of a bloke 'oop north' that machines aluminium tubes in a garden shed with a converted wood lathe, some of his home brew machinery would make yer hair stand on end. He gets the job done though, and the end result looks very professional. It's amazing what can be done with limited resources and some willpower, like the 'Fonly lathe' A Dremel and some scrap wood and metal, perfect for turning drip tips and small parts. Details
