A quote from the existing provider came into the Inbox today, £488. So off I hopped to one of the online insurers, ran the digits through, £307. Rang my current provider and they have given me the same cover as before, and 'managed' to drop it to £310.
Never take a renewal at face value, get a lower one (or three, a drop of £190 was fine for me) and ring them up!

They are a bunch of gits.
Price has become a new "flexible" concept....
Good for you, Dave.

My renewal was higher last year. Did the comparison thing and same company was £150 cheaper bringing it down to what I was paying! I rang up, got the deal but couldn't believe it. There's no customer loyalty now is there?!?

There's no customer loyalty now is there?!? I started this year @spikeyfridge with Direct Line instead of a comparison site, being as how the latter have been shown up recently as being in cohoots with the providers in ripping you and me off - they artificially inflate the prices of all their "compared" offerings so that they can take a chunky slice, while keeping your premiums up. I actually went to Direct Line. Again, if you're with Direct Line, go to a site that is not a comparison one, my old one was Admiral (who tried to rip me off and I caught em out). Don't use comparison sites. Edit : I stayed with Admiral, as the difference was 3 quid in the end, and as they have my past records they know I'm not bullshitting them on the '9 years no claims' and so on.

Mine went up £300+ with Direct Line after being with them for 4 years and never claiming in 28 years of driving. They wouldn't explain why, take it or leave it, I left it. First four years they were the cheapest.

Also be very careful about using online insurance companies there are a lot of fake I surname companies out thet and no excuse if you have a traffic accident you could end up not only paying for the cost of your car the third party car any personal injury and to add insult to injury get a no insurance fine and points on your licence
Having worked in the insurance industry when I left school I would alwas recommend looking around before renewing, we are lucky I have a motsbility car so I don't need to worry about insurance or tax

Car insurance in my case spaniel, the same applies to all insurance policies. They rely on people being too idle or too busy to actually search around for cheaper deals, and just issue you with an unwarrented renewal increase every. year. The comparison websites started out good, but it's been revealed that they are hand in glove with the companies that sign up to them, and just bump ALL the premiums they host up in order to rake in a profit and make the ones who pay most to them look best. Don't use comparison websites. Find a few sites that do not use them, there's no shortage of insurance companies Get the lowest quote, and either go right with it, or ring your current insurer and give them the info. Took me about 15 minutes (and the lady at the other end had a sexy accent, I'm such a putz for that). Next year I will do the exact same.
