Hi
A quick question about the Kanger OCC coils (Kanthal and Ni200), i have started rebuilding the old coils but just need some advice on when you rebuild a coil how are you going about pulsing the coil prior to use?
What i did was the usual build around a former, then squeezed the coil slightly whilst held by my long nosed pliers, and heated to a glow with the gas torch, but did not fire it again once fitted to the coil adaptor prior to wicking. I was a bit concerned about shorting the coil once in place, but could be talking a load of Doo Dahh!
Checked on the resistance meter all ok on the kanthal build at 1.2 ohm, so the plan is to do a couple of the Ni200's needing done tomorrow.
So basically what i am asking is do you fire the coil again before wicking, or do you just wick it, fill it, and vape it!

I don't preheat or pulse them at all. The first few hits are a bit oogy, two or three, but once past that they are just fine. I rewicked not a half hour ago, 5 winds 0.3mm wire 0.25mm former, 0.14 ohms. Tootling away nicely on a ST mini.
Edited cuz I can't do ohms. 0.14 not 1.4. This is on a dna40.

I fire mine before wicking car147 Had a couple with hot spots, which I ripped out and started again. 4" of kanthal I can afford to waste for the sake of tastebuds. Each to their own though

Well after rebuilding the first one and using it for a few hours I started getting dry hits at around 15.5w. This was with the Occ coil built at 1.2 ohm, only two things I can think that could be causing this is my coil was a micro or I have put too much mujji cotton in if. That's possible ? What do you think?

What do you think? Probably too much cotton...But, What diameter coil is it? How many wraps on the coil? You want about 5 wraps at 2.5mm (it's always going to be a half wrap as well, so 4.5, 5.5 etc.). I found that any smaller that 2.5 and it will leak because the wick will be too thin. 3mm would be better for a micro coil in the stock heads. If you have different gauge wire, experiment until you get it leak free without dry hits. Hope this helps

Hi
It was 26awg 3mm i/d and initially came out at 1.1ohm and around 6 wraps if i recall. guess i'll just need to experiment a bit until happy.
Cheers for the info
