All morning at work been smelling burnt plastic just went to have a lunch time vape and my Cartomizer, drip tip and cone were welded together (will post a pic tonight), battery seems to be fine and still working my guess is the button on the battery was under something and been continually pressed causing the Cartomizer to become over heated and burning , is this even possible? I do have other theory's but this seems most likely . Thoughts please?

More likely a short..Maybe e-juice has worked it's way into the battery contacts..
Dunno what kit you have but most batteries should have a cut off time of around ten seconds if the switch is continually pressed..

Rivas and Egos have a 5 - 10 second cut off, but I have done the same by having a Riva in my jeans pocket because you are jiggeling it. You need to be careful about pressing the button inadvertantly. As your battery is okay that points to what I said above, if it was permanently on then your battery would be dead or possibly ruined. Hope this helps.

Finished vaping and put the Riva down on the settee and went to use the pc looked round after five minutes and there was a mass of vape coming from the settee. The Riva had fallen between the cushion and arm and was switched on Not sure how long for but the thing was bloody hot i ended binning the carto just to be on the safe side. Previous to this though the battery had been playing up when ireleased the button the blue light was staying on well past 5/10 seconds and would not turn off unless i started unscrewing the carto from the battery and then i would get the flashing blue light. Something was definitely up with it yesterday not sure what I guessed it may have needed a charge so i put it on charge and it appears to be ok now ???

Sticky button is quite common on Riva/Ego's, crud/juice gets down the side of the button and gums it up. A few hard quick presses in short succession usually clears it.

Des, it was my first thought and now I have calmed down I am thinking it is more than likely what happened the cartomizer was completed destroyed though: i1258.photobucket.com/albums/ii535/kirsty0108/20120217_180109.jpgand there is a lot of gunk round the battery so it could also be a short as macafan says , but then it could also just be the cartomizer leaking down as it melted. Now what is best for cleaning up the gunk I am thinking Vodka but I don't have any and Bacardi strikes me as maybe being a bit sticky? Hopefully this is my first and last melting carto experience but given that Kirsty is actually my middle name with Calamity bring my first it may not be, infact I may have to go and see if I change my user name

Blimey, that's a mess Kirsty . . . I had something very similar with the Screwdriver that I had, the button got activated in my handbag and it wasn't until I saw vapour coming from my bag, that I realised something was wrong.
Just shows how careful we have to be, you can get a button protector cover for your Ego . . . have you any nail polish remover? That may well clean off any residue gunk.

Just actually realised at lunch time had to go back to my desk to pick up my battery I had left it in the folds of my metro, I must have put something on top of it OMG I am so lucky I didn't have a little desk fire ! Right think I will be using the off function for now on. I think this officially confirms my membership of the blonde club! Thanks for the tip about nail polish remover sounds cheaper than vodka ! Glad its happened to someone else though, has put my mind at rest
