Heyas peeps, after finding both my nautilus tanks in my box of bits I got fed up with I decided one last time to try rebuild the coils. Basically if its not Armageddon proof and can be homebuilt then its not staying lol. Anyhow I have tried lots of different builds useing the vertical coil, umpteen different wicking methods and tbh they were all pretty crud, leaky with poor airflow. (Hence they had been resigned to the crud box) So I took drastic action. Drilled 1 pair of holes out useing a 3 mm drill and made 2.5 mm microcoil @1.6 ohms. Wicked with jap cotton , as you can see in pics most of the wick tail is cut close to the body protank style. But I have left a couple mil wide 8mm long strip. These are used to cover up the other 2 little holes. Prime wick like normal and gently coil the long tails round sealing off the mini holes drip a couple of drops on coil and good to go. Been useing this for the last 24 hours, its been stood up,layed down and nonleaks. Airflow is identical to the bvc coil. Vapour wise its excellent, been running it at 18.9 w on istick 20w. Running the big nautilus with brand new bvc coil in same juice and their is negligible difference in flavour, vapour,th. The only concern I have is nautilus coils have crappy rubber insulators and I would like to replace with silicone. However even @20w on my SIG the rebuilt coil is giving no funky flavours and that's taking a full long lung pull. Really regret ditching most of my old bvc coils now lol. Here's some pics hopefully it will make it easier to see what I did.

Well had 4 tanks through now and 2 rewicks as I changed flavours, no issues working perfectly. Managed to scroung some used heads from brother in law so looks like nautilus tanks are in active use again lol.

igual Martin eBay stock no (can't link it) 110876809342. The smaller silicones fit the protank as grommets, just tried the bigger one on the nauti BvC head and it fits perfectly, it is a tad long but can be snipped off to equal the length of the bottom pin. I've got a fair few if you want some, but would be well worthwhile getting another pack.

this is my massive issue, the coils are just a pain to redo and it doesnt go along with my self sufficient vaping mantra. I do have a few packs of coils but I'm trying to eak them out, chances are i'll get rid of tanks before I get to end of packets! I normally use them on my istick and I do love them for faff free usage but over the past few weeks the dawning realisation has come upon me that they are brushed finish and my istick have polished tops and buttons and I just cannot bear it! So I've blown the dust off my protank 3's as they are perfect metal match. Sod the vape experience, they are satisfactory, I have v1 airflow bases to match and no overhang AND they are a joy to recoil! *edit* So actually.... I should just go buy a new mod to put them on, something that'll fit teh standard and mini AND have a brushed finish see the answer was always there at the end of my credit card icon_shoppingm

Just done replaced the last stock coil I had in the big nautilus, was a bit concerned this method wouldn't work due to the recess in the big nautilus being much deeper, but I'm glad to report its working flawlessly @18w with minted red Astaire 50/50 sorry about crappy pics need to get a better camera

Is there a photo available without the wick so as i can see where to drill the holes.
edit Just ignore that as i never looked at the coil before typing. I see there are 4 holes on the coil so i am guessing you just drill out 2 diagonal holes and cover the other 2 with the wick.

Great guide igual I just picked up a few BVC coils to try out the full size nautilus I picked up on PIF ages ago. It came with one knackered head which I tried to rebuild with a vertical coil and failed... This method looks sound for a nice no faff horizontal coil. Going to try my wife with the nautilus on our hols next week, as figured it should be a good hassle free option. But nice to know I can rebuild the heads once they are done with. Not entirely confident about the drilling side of it as it's not something I've ventured into yet with my rebuilding. I'm guessing could probably use your method with a smaller diameter coil without the need to drill out the holes...

sonicflowjoe, you can't because there is and inner wall that holds something like blotting paper!I use a tiny dab of clear silicon on the two undrilled holes. No leaks, no adverse juice flavours and to my knowledge no I'll effects on me!

It's been a while since I took that last one apart

Not entirely confident about the drilling side of it as it's not something I've ventured into yet with my rebuilding. I'm guessing could probably use your method with a smaller diameter coil without the need to drill out the holes... I've been recoiling BVC & BDC heads for some time.
The inner sleeve can be removed by putting the head in a vice and tapping a drill ( I think it's 5mm ) to knock it out. I ditch the cotton that comes out with it. Not had any leaking problems to make it necessary to block the other two holes.
I line the sleeve up so that 2 opposite holes are unobstructed and squeeze the sleeve back in using a trigger clamp.
With the new heads ( larger holes ) a 2mm micro coil can then be fitted without having to drill the holes An 18 gauge blunt needle is just right for keeping the coil in place when fitting the grommet & pin.
The same method works with Atlantis heads but you need a bigger drill. I think it's 7.5mm. I did have flooding problems but a thicker wick fixed it.
