I have a problem with my Riva 1100 battery - I've always got one on charge whilst I'm using the other one. This morning I screwed what I thought was a charged battery on, sat down with my first coffee of the day, added some ejuice to my carto, but nada, zilch, the battery was dead as a dodo. So, I have no functioning battery - one spent and one dead. I bought this kit at the end of Jan and a week later bought an additional one for my son. As he is out, I was contemplating searching his bedroom in the hope he had a charged battery. Wasn't looking foward to doing that, but then the postman came to the rescue with the SD keyring I ordered from Jason and after a small charge on my laptop, it's ready to go. Phew! I've cleaned the battery and charger connections with a dry q-tip. I think problems with the charger can be eliminated as the charger must be ok as it appears to be charging the battery I used yesterday, (currently showing red), but the uncharged battery is staying green. Although, it does blink a few times when I connect it. Visually, the dead battery looks ok - no evidence of leaking. Should I try cleaning it again with vodka soaked q-tip, poke around with a cocktail stick. Any suggestions?

It could be that the centre pin has sunk. If you have a multimeter, you could try checking the voltage.
Otherwise, try levering the centre pin up gently with a fine screwdriver, or similar tool. Be careful not to press the switch when doing this as it will short the battery.

Guess a cocktail stick would do the same job. Just have to be careful when using a tissue to clean any leaking juice that I don't push it back in. As far as testing with a multimeter, I'm sure my hubbie got one of those in his tool box. He works abroad, so often away and hates me messing with his stuff. I've not used one of these, but I'm guessing you would touch the metal top of the battery or the centre with both pronges whilst depressing the button. If the battery is ok, then the meter reading would go up. Don't have a clue what it should go up to and will try to educate myself on ohms/ mAh's. I'm guessing each charge will deplete the performance and life of the battery and it won't hold the charge. As I'm alternating charging my 2 Riva batteries, they are both going to extinguish about the same time. So, I need to get a few more. Anyone bought these LED batteries from China?

I had a similar problem with a brand new Riva battery I bought, it just stayed on green when I plugged it in to charge, and didn't respond at all when I took it off and tried it. I called the vendor and they were happy to take it back and replace it, but told me what the problem could be and how to fix it, lifting the centre pin, I very carefully tried this, with some fine nosed tweezers, only a mm or so, but now the charging light turns off altogether when I plug it in, so I'm guessing it's worse now. And I don't want to return it now, obviously having messed with it I guess what I'm trying to say is, be careful you don't make it worse if you're trying to fix it.

I'm not absolutely certain of this, but I think that you shouldn't completely drain a battery until it's completely flat otherwise it shortens its life. E cig batteries have no memory effect unlike most re- chargeable batteries. I never completely drain mine anyway. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm surprised you all haven't got tired off your Riva's yet. I used to own a titan and it was the same process of parts failing, tacky build, and generally not as much life expectancy as what you'd tend to expect from it. The main thing I disliked with it was the batteries at best usually only lasted a couple of months most before they went bad, and replacements for me at that were very expensive. Especially when they were always consistantly on charge and didnt last long. I'm not suggesting for any one to do this but it's worth a thought when you next run out of equipment and are deciding whether to renew or re-buy. The Don, a pretty cheap entry level big battery mod has excellent reviews and is a fully mechanical PV. www.mojurepublic.com/cart.phpThis link above shows how cheap you could pick a full kit up for, with a 10% discount added to it. The link below is a review site, where you can also see reviews and prices for many others too. www.ecigarette-mods.com/megalodon/And a video review The gr8 thing with the don is, it's cheap. Fully mechanical. Looks and works great. Fully adjustable throw. Pocket Friendly. Multi voltige - Accepts many different types of batteries, i.e, 18350, 18650, 2x cr123a for 6v and custom 5v. Though I just use LR carto's to simulate the same affect at 3.7v with a 18350 800mah in mini mode. Batteries can be had for £6 for 2 and cheaper still elsewhere. It accepts loads of different types of atty/carto. Ego/Map/501 or even 901/801 with alternate adapter. And in all honesty it should last you a lifetime. Once you have the intial kit and charger. In the long run everything else then works out cheaper too. All you need to renew is, batteries @ £6 for 2.(6months to a year) Juice, attys/cartys and drip tips. Like said i'm not suggesting for anyone to buy this, but it's great compitition to any standard kit. Especially if you can see yourself vaping for more than a year or so. I would've also consdered getting an empire mod. But the darn things are just never available in stock! Just my 2 cents worth. I like the freedom of not being stuck to just one brand and supply list. And The Don for me eradicates that There's no repairing or tampering I ever need to do. Just a little polish now and again to make it look like new.

Hello & welcome Jsis Many of us here have mods I have a Don, but far prefer my GGTS. Don't forget, this is the new members section, & most folks starting out wont want to go straight for a big battery holder Most in fact want a ciggie lookalike to begin with so a compromise of a Riva is a good kit for them to go for - far better battery life than the Titan you had

I can understand where Jsis is coming from but the idea is to help people get off the analogues and a mod is very rarely the first stage. If the only thing one has to worry about is the centre pin of a RIVA and not my lungs that a major step forward..

Lol.. I hear what your saying. Nothing wrong with throwing a few idea's around though and leaving room for the next step. I swore by my 510 whilst I had it, don't look back now though. GGTS's are very nice. Just expensive. Would you like to give it to me Chrissie ? I have some very nice homemade juice for swaps lol.. I should be on campermans thread!

I agree Rivas/ eGo's can be a pain and when they go it's £12+ to replace them. On the other hand my original Riva is getting on for four months old and I have never had a problem with it. I have come to the conclusion that it makes a difference where you get them from! I still keep a few going and think they are especially useful for "out and about" - they are discrete and if you lose one it is not the end of the world. Having said that I agree with jsis that it is well worth considering a well made fully mechanical mod. The don is very well thought of. Other possibilities in the same price range are the Silver Bullet, the BB and the Alpha from here: www.ivapour-elixir.co.uk/Or the Prodigy or Icon from here: www.cloud9vaping.co.uk/epages/yxve46fvrnud.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/yxve46fvrnud/Categories/PSThey seem expensive - but will last a very long time. Alternatively you could do what I did and keep an eye on the classifieds (especially on UKV) and get one a bit cheaper.
