I think, for a starter squonker, you couldn't beat the price and it works. With me, its just not enough ooomph. When I vape, I like to know and feel I'm having a vape (eh dagl !!!)

Well I don't care about you lot, but I am very impressed at the quality of manufacture for the price. Tons of vapour and great taste on Black 'n' Blue at 0.5ohms and Rayon. Works well for me. Quick SquonkAs I said previously, the main thing wrong with it is the post screws on mine, and it requires a lowish build (about 0.5 ohm dual coil @ 26g/3mm), but yes I agree with you, it is a very impressive squonker kit, especially for such a low price.

Ok, being slightly contrary and a little fickle I've changed my mind. Its not too shabby as a starter squonker. Got orange tic tac in a cyclone on it and we're getting along quite nicely. Not my best by any means but its ok

vern, Am I correct in saying, strip out that negative battery button unit and replace with a weaker spring. I also noticed I was getting irregular firing strengths. Thanks m8 your are an asset to this forum.

yeah bud...the negative connection is too strongly springed (I just made up those words). The firing pin has a nice landing area near the top, which almost never touches the actualy positive ring inside the top of the mod. So you end up making contact ont he side of a small pin. Take it apart and you'll see the marks it has made. I really didnt notice anything until after some time as the marks are from dirty sparks and such. To check if you have the problem, press the button such that it tilts a bit..and try different tilt angles. If suddenly your battery doesnt feel flat anymore, then your pin is dirty in some places. It really does depend on the battery, but doing this mod means any typer of battery will work as it just gets pushed down till the firing pin makes proper contact.
If you remove the battery and push the button, you'll see the little pin pop out into the battery compartment, probably 1mm or so. But that is not where the battery positive is, so you dont get full contact through a wide area when firing.
I havent managed to take the original negative contact apart, but *when* I do, then a spring chop can be done to the existing spring perhaps to achieve the same thing. Also, a weaker spring like I have fitted means the battery is no longer pressed against the top of the battery compartment by the strength of a hundred men, so you can now rattle the box about a bit. Rather have that than inconsistent firing. I'm doing this mod to both of my Owls.
alternative ideas: you could grind/sand off a bit of the firing pin bottom, but then your owl will only work well with the battery you sized it for. you could add some little ring enforcer sticker (as used when hole punching paper) to the top of a battery, so the positive of the battery is a bit low. But you'll have to do that to all our batteries, and charging them may be iffy. the spring idea, as originally designed, is correct to solve this, but I do think someone went to the parts bin and got an over-enthusiast spring instead of a nice light one.

Sounds like a pain in the ass to me and a recipe for a short circuit. I guess it's too much to ask for it to work o.k without having to **** about with it. If it ever ******* gets here that is.

I've reworked the original contact with a ballpoint pen spring. The assembly is press-fitted together in the factory and is a bit of a pain to disassemble. the thread on squonking.co.uk has been updated accordingly.

I don`t know about anyone else, but I`m not getting any connection problems. Personally I want that battery as tight as possible. If you are getting any problems, turn the battery upside down so there is a nice big area for the fire pin to make contact with (doesn`t matter which way round the battery is in this mod), unless I`m missing something? I am pretty impressed with mine to be honest, excellent value for money EDIT ................. the atty is crap, I wouldn`t make a judgement on the mod if you are basing it on using the supplied atty. The vape chamber is about the biggest I have seen on any atty.

got mine today.. not too bad, don't really like the atty though seems to be moisture coming from somewhere I think maybe the bit that the drip tip screws into has a gap where it meets the chamber cos it feels a bit greasy. And it's a bit too airy ok for chucking big vapor but for flavour not much cop and the post holes are tiny. I aint complaining though for the price pretty neat.

The atty really is crap, I think they designed it just to make the mod look good @jc72
