After getting inspiration from seeing everyone making their own mods I thought it was time to dip my toe in the water and have a bash at a DNA mod. I really liked the idea of a lightweight mod so decided to buy a Shapeways enclosure, the Aries mini DNA40. Three parts are required, the main body, the battery door and the battery sled. www.shapeways.com/product/MVRZDANGV/aries-mini-dna-40-main-body?li=search-results-1&optionId=43296578www.shapeways.com/product/HEYBSBAU9/aries-battery-door-v2?li=shop-results&optionId=23792863www.shapeways.com/product/942B9FLJL/aries-battery-holder-dual-18650?li=shop-results&optionId=42830103Here's the 3 parts along with the other items required. The other items I bought were :- A varitube 22mm spring loaded 510 - www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=350A 16mm Vandal proof switch www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=208An Evolv micro usb charging board www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=339Two tactile switches www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=29320 3mm * 1mm magnets to hold the battery sled and battery cover in place www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=360A Keystone battery holder www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=322note this is to rob the two terminal contacts only for the Shapeways Aries battery sled. And a DNA40 board www.stealthvape.co.uk/index.php?route=mobile_store/product&product_id=337I also bought lots of silicone flexible wire from hobby king, 1.5 * 6mm Rakon screw from ebay to secure the DNA board, red and black heat shrink from eBay, some soldering bits and bobs and some 20 minute two part epoxy resin. And finally a soldering station and third hand. Firstly I tried a dry fit of all the components to check if they fitted and two didn't. The holes on the base for the tactile switches were way to small so I opened them out a little with a round file. Similarly the opening for the usb charge board was too small and I opened that up a little with a flat needle file. I also originally intended to make this a DNA30 mod as I got two half price boards, unfortunately the box really needs a DNA40 as the mounting relies on the additional rails and the board itself holds the screen in position so I'll have to order a DNA40 board and save the 30's for the next mods. I did contemplate making a retaining holder or using epoxy to secure but I think that could end in disaster ! Next up I soldered the positive wire to the 510, stripping the 510 down first and soldered the 510 negative wire to the supplied banjo, both connections were then heat shrieked and the 510 fitted to the enclosure and tightened up. I may expoxy the 510 nut in place later to prevent it coming loose with atty changes, I'll check the mod works first though Showing two of the 8 wee magnets glued in position to secure the battery holder in place, check and double check you have the little blighters in the correct orientation so each pair attract. Two of the battery terminals need to be removed from the doner Keystone battery sled, these just slide out pushing from the bottom with a bit of brute force. Once inserted into the Aries sled they were a little loose and the bottom of the the terminals were perilously close to the 510 positive pin holder so I cut the lower part of the battery terminals off then soldered respective wires to each terminal and then covered each joint with epoxy for good measure and to prevent vertical movement of the terminals when changing batteries. No part of the terminal or bare wire/joint protruded lower than the sled. I also glued the corresponding magnets into the battery sled. And checked the battery would fit And that all parts fitted together Fire button fitted and the rest of the magnets glued in place for the battery cover, 20 magnets in total ! Tactile switch tails soldered on and heatshrinked. Waiting on delivery of a DNA40 board now. Dn40 Arrived All wires soldered to the DNA board and board and screen secured in place with Racon 1.6 * 5mm self tapping screws. i've used a 200 ohm resistor in series with the LED of the fire switch. Almost there Fire button wires soldered and battery installed - the moment of truth We have life Really pleased the LED works And it's important you everything you need to hand Resistors www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300981063392?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=600154796692&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITRakon screws www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rakon-M1-6x6mm-Self-Tapping-Pan-Head-Screws-M1-6X6SPH-10-/371145905731?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item566a051643

Loving the blue Greg think your first customer is going to be letsavit How you finding the 3d stuff, well thought out init. Quite amazing how well all the bits fit together, had a couple of little challenges with some of the orifices but dead easy to tweak. not sure about the display cut out yet and it's a few mil bigger all round on the inside. I've ordered a DNA40 as adapting the 30 without the rails might be a challenge to far at this stage. im assuming the screen is held in place by the board itself and it'll be a case of nipping the four board screws up and gently tweaking the board position until it's align before fully securing the board screws to hold the screen in place. I'll find out when the board arrives
