I do like the sound of the software, and being able to tweak a lot of parameters, just wish it was 80-100w max and duel 18650

Using 3 cells in series will allow it to work more efficiently and prolong your battery life, 200 W is a lot from batteries and series with separate cell monitoring is by far the best way to do it electronically IMO. I like small mods so hope for a cut down 70 W version purely for size and being able to use my current batteries. I'm no electronic whizz but is there any reason that they couldn't allow you to select a battery configuration with the software and have it limit the board output to a safe level e.g if you select a single 18650 20a C configuration it limits the board to say 75w? Their boards constantly monitor the battery right, so the board should be able to prevent a user from selecting a triple series 18650 configuration with the software and then trying to run it on a single 18650 or am i being daft? They could, but it would be less efficient, need more components so it would be larger and IMO that is a sign that a single battery version may follow. It is assumption ATM that is is just buck conversion (output less than the battery voltage) but it may well run soft-limited on two of the three cells if one is weak, it is the sort of thing Evolv do.

But on the bright side it's a bigger box so they should run out of their stock of crap paint quicker.

Lots of interesting stuff on the software there thanks tpat591, don't care about power pre-sets, but the wire curve and ability to modify the pre-heat in particular sound very powerful tools that should give a new level of vape tuning and is very tempting, but would have to sell some things. First pre-sale is up 7-10 days Opus 200 $229, strange many people are still posting that it is still in beta. Most of the discussion I have read on ECF and Breaktru has got derailed by people worried about lipo, I am not they have separate cell monitoring and balance charging as long as you use a good lipo and don't whack it about these will be as safe as anything else, if not safer. Don't know about modern lipos bit from my RC days when they started getting used over nicad the things used to get bloody hot quickly, in charge and use.

The important difference is one of if not the top board manufacture for looking after batteries, individual cell monitoring and on board balance charging so if any cell shows signs of anything bad it will refuse to fire. RC models don't have this level of battery management and they are far harder on the batteries, both in terms of current draw and physical knocks.
You can use 3 18650s if you prefer and still get individual cell monitoring and on board balance charging.

"Vape safe be smart" 200 watts, yea well smart..... Someone on ECF posted that they are owned by Brandon Walsh co owner of Evolv, they look good if you you want a tough workhorse and cheaper than a SX Mini M. ETA Not true Brandon is a mate of the owner and helped him to start the company that's all.

I only stopped flying R/C a couple of years ago, and can tell you from experience a lot of Li-Po's have gone into thermal runaway, even respected brands, they are just by nature far more unstable than our current Li-on cells .
Mix that with fools that don't do their homework on how to use/charge them safely and it's a recipe for disaster , crikey experienced li-po users have had their home go up all because the battery has suddenly vented, plenty of garages/ sheds burnt down on R/C forums, all because they thought it would be ok as there had never been a problem before.
I have nothing against informed folk using them, as they should be aware of the risks and safe practise

I notice on the Opus page they advise a 1 or 2 A mains USB supply, so charging via USB should be quicker than most big/multi battery mods, remember this is split to 3 cells so still not fast.
