Thats a definite toots, I always have spare room in my suit case for extra vaping supplies, the wife on the other hand, probably wont be till next year though, wifes 50th and shes made me splash out on a holiday in santorini in september, I spoil her you dont have to tell me lol

Do you really think that's all there is to it? All couriers make an extra charge for vat or duty collected. Forget the postie writing a card, that's fairly common. There are a few more steps involved in getting the money to HMRC. They don't all sit next to each other and swap it about.
In the US they charge when buying from state to state, in the same country.
Part of it is deterrent, protecting their own business people. Most is actual cost.

How long does it take an employee to collect the money and enter it on a computer system, then arrange an electronic transfer?If it's £8 worth of time then either Royal mail are paying silly wages or the process is inefficient. No getting around the fact that £8 is not an acceptable amount to charge for what should be a fast and easy job.

But you know the cost up front, if you can't stomach that don't buy, simples.

I know it's a bit late now but I always use this calculator to work out the customs duty it's never been wrong yet just don't forget to add the £8 that snail mail charge for there bit

I've had major luck with ordering stuff from the USA best one was over $600 worth of skates not a penny in Duty.
