Or, if you really want another way to do it, do what I do, get yourself one of these: www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/devolo-1658-dlan-500mbps-single-av-mini-adapter-10976999-pdt.htmlData transfer rate is 500mbps which is pretty good (better than USB or firewire so my memory tells me), then buy one of these (this is mine at home): What this is, it's a netgear router with a USB port on it, attached to the side of it using velcro ( ) is a WD 500GB HD, the router is attached to the plug listed above (don't buy them from PC world, much cheaper elsewhere) and the other plug is where I need it to be, in your case, next to where you work most so you can just plug in. You can then access that USB drive anywhere, and I mean anywhere, you can give it an address and use it on any computer anywhere in the world, ready access to your files wherever you need them. But, I am geeky, I like things like that :-[

CD Caddy - that's an easy one I'm with you now, I couldn't think how a hard drive would fit into a CD caddy It's not an easy one cos I'm using 11.6" laptops with no optical drives I've got a crossover cable. But the laptop that's recording whatever is the most "important" stream at the time is connected to the router via cable, so there's no socket free to connect it to another laptop. I'm just going to remove the router>laptop cable and connect 2 lappies with the crossover and see what happens ... ... Doesn't make much difference, it's still slow. I use Teracopy, is that interfering with the cross-over cable transfer? The laptops: Asus G1Sn-AK014C 15" T8300 Alienware M11x-R1 SU7300 Alienware M11x-R3 i7-2637M* I have a lodger (well, a dosser really > ) who has taken over the lounge in my one-bedroom flat, so the only place I can work is on my double bed. Me and 3 laptops I do all my editing on that one* - it's much faster than the other two, which do the recordings with Debut Video Capture, VLC and/or Jaksta, depending on circs. I do have external USB drives but they are slow over USB2. The M11x-R3 has USB3 but I haven't bought any USB3 devices or caddies yet. Leave all that for a while, I've got to post about my sudden problem with Debut
