After a bit more digging it looks like this unit will be available from around mid July and be priced about £40 and the battery alone about £12. I'm surprised it hasn't gone on presale as seems to be the fashion lately with new stuff.

It's a disrupter of aesthetics. Not so much "I Taste", more "I low on Taste" Function over form. Bound to be popular.

Personally, looks wise I think its horrible and I hope this isn't the way things are going. I will never have a need for anything over 40 watts (in fact probably never over 20 watts!!) so I still want to see new mods that take normal removable 18650's. Was sort of hoping innokin would release a version of the coolfire IV with external/swapable battery - but after seeing this I don't think that's likely

There will always be choices out there. Like most things, no doubt the system will evolve in both shape and form. Of late the trend has been towards bigger integrated batteries. I'm not sure the introduction of this unit will sweep the 18650 out of the market. It does move towards getting rid of the often cited criticism of integrated battery units. Namely the ability to charge off the unit. To me it has other safety features in that the battery charging is via USB rather than a dedicated charger. Lets face it, charging is the most dangerous part of vaping, and where most of the fires occur. Until the cloners get involved the quality of the battery is also reasonably assured. Innokin will not want to damage their reputation by putting out dangerous shoddy goods. Whereas, how many of us have seen or heard of fake/counterfeit 18650 batteries? Most I would imagine.

this is a picture of the new chip. I Must say I like the idea of the exchangeable LiPo in a protective housing, the click on and off means no more opening up devices to change batteries. Innokin say that the battery has a lifespan of 300 charge/discharge cycles, more than an 18650. It also had I low voltage reserve on it and short circuit protection. I'm getting sent one for review on my channel from Heavensgifts so I will give it a good going over.

Let us know how you get on with it when it arrives. The reviews I have seen have given it a thumbs up. I wonder if TC will be added to V2?

That's not a new IC, that's a diode designed to trigger any reverse polarity protection applied to a LiPo battery/cell (it'll blow the fuse if the charging connection is reversed), or simply blow a fuse. As in 'idiot diode'. In this case it means nowt, unless somehow you attempt to charge it with reverse polarity.

Looks like a temperature protection and over current breaker to me. Hard to tell what the diodes are for. The specs do say it has reverse polarity protection as well, so no doubt on there too.

Yeah sorry my mistake, not the chip I've been looking at some more pics of the unit. The battery connection to the main unit is with 2 pins with a strong magnet at the top of the unit and battery housing. I'm hoping the magnets are strong enough to prevent the pins from being stressed.

It will be interesting to see how they develop this system in terms of mod development that can be used with the battery system. They seem to have come out with a conservative vw/vv mod rather than go cutting edge with TC and the likes.
