Video Editing Software

I downloaded one once before. I can't remember the name of it, but it ended up crashing my pc & installing something that infected the hard drive, resulting in me losing everything on it. So does anyone know of a reliable, virus free programme I can download that won't cause the same problem. Basically, what I want to do, is make a video with a slideshow & put an mp3 soundtrack with it & then possibly upload it to YouTube (although that's not vital). Thanking you very muchly.

free or anywhere upto £200 and quite a few in between as well.

you usually have windows movie maker included with your windows install. if you can find it you can get it here windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials its quite basic and no where near as good as cyberlink which you can do so much with.

have a looksie at both. i would give cyber a go for 30 days and then load windows movie maker.

another free option is serif movie maker that is a starter edition (some features may be missing) but it's free.

I haven't used this package, but serif generally make easy to use software with a good feature set so I'd expect it to do the job for you.

Liteworks is another good free editor.

Virtualdub is a fantastic piece of software as well.

Unfortunately Steve, that programme is one of the culprits. It will allow me to start compiling a project, but the minute I try & preview it, the whole pc freezes & I have to shut it down manually.

Thanks for those links MrDJ & thatguy ........I'll have a looky.......... .....Do you know without me reading up, if the free ones you've linked to, whack a big watermark across the screen?......also, after my experience before, I'm really dubious about downloading any software that I'm not familiar with, but "He who dares Rodney"..........& all that malarky.

i had that as well and thought it was my old computer. seems to affect quite a lot the longer the video is and once it starts rendering is when the problems start.

cyberlink is the worlds fastest software when it comes to rendering. 1 hour HD movie takes about 15 minutes while windows media player would take over an hour.

im sure its the full trial version so there should be no watermarks.

try a couple of minutes to check as the only trial i tried was version 10 about 6 years ago and it defo didnt have it then.

Yeah........I've just attempted to compile a project on movie maker & after adding one picture & an audio track, I went to preview it & the bloody pc froze & I got an almighty great loud buzzing through the headphones.....frightened the friggin' life out of me............. ...........I will add also, that I'm using a pc with XP on it to attempt this little feat.

ouch, been there and had that. lol

xp, hmm not sure cyber will work then. try a search for power director 9 (i think) which should be free now as i think that was xp/vista approved.
64bit operating system and a decent amount of ram helps also. ive got 16gb ram and it breezes through.

the only other one ive used is pinnacle but that was about 8 years ago.

hope you find something suitable.

chrisjw if you have a tablet i use kine master video editor app. Free version you will get a small watermark in top right hand corner.
Try googling camtasia studio 8 for free. There is a way to download it and then stop it from updating so you never have to put a keycode in. That is what i have on my pc.

The last 5 or 6 of my reviews were made with kine on my tablet with the paid version so no watermark. There is a new version in beta at the moment with a lot more features which should be out soon.

Roscopecotrain..............I've d/l the free Camtasia Studio, but before I install it, are you able to confirm that it does what I quoted?........i.e. a project using pictures & adding an mp3 soundtrack.....

I also d/l the pdf user guide which should keep me busy for a month or so...........

It does indeed chrisjw. Pretty much a full editing package.
The intro to my videos was made with it and that is pics and a mp3 track.
