Hi Arrowmunda, I have never tried either eating or growing Pumpkins, so perhaps I will give them a try in the future. My plan is to grow one new, to me, Veg each year. Next year's will be Salsify.

I love Salsify lobeydosser ... lightly sauteed in a little butter and it's delicious. Make sure you have some lemon water to drop them in as soon as you have pealed them as they turn brown very quickly

This gardening lark is getting complicated. First I had to run in electricity for the greenhouse. Now I am having to run in an irrigation system for the raised beds.
The garden is fast becoming a building site!

Well that's the latest addition to the garden. A Gibbet!!!! So if you know anyone that is "hanging" about with nothing to do, well I am holding a "hanging party". Actually it is the beginning of a trellis.

I don't even know if I like them (to eat)! I grow them for carving and giving to the local kids for Halloween only

Hi Arrowmunda, So you are entering a busy time of year then???? The kids up here think that Pumpkins are made of plastic and only sold by the local Co-op.

Usually yes but it was a poor crop this year due to late frosts but the kids love the little white pumpkins and people are generally amazed at the variety of pumpkins that can be grown.

The latest pic of the garden, taken today, in the rain (as usual).

Apart from moving the wheel barrow, nothing will be seen to change in the garden now until next April or May apart from some winter flowers in the bed below the trellis.
Plant wise most will be seeds in the beds or seedlings in the greenhouse.
If everything goes to plan, by this time next year I am hoping to have grown a summer and then another autumn crop in the raised beds. Then again, perhaps I am being too ambitious.
We'll see.

This part of the garden is not finished yet but I am waiting for the contractors to finish laying the paths before I do the rest of it. Slab laying is a bit beyond me these days and the weather is too bad for that at the moment.
Gardening, for me, is a lot like vaping in that I needed to learn a lot before I started to enjoy it. However, at least with vaping I found a stage where I was content with what I had and I'm sticking at that. I doubt if that will happen with the garden.
As well as Shinyitist, can you get Sproots Brewsellyitist?

This thread always makes me smile Surely I am not the only vaper in this community who has found themselves in a situation where, having given up smoking, now has cash in hand to do things that I simply did not have the finance nor the energy to do before.
Come on guys and gals, tell us what new ventures the benefits of vaping has brought into your lives!

Thanks to some money I received yesterday for my birthday, I went out today and bought a garden shredder which will chip all my greens and hedge material and make it ready for the compost heap.
I still have a few bob left over and I will use that to buy some heated matting for the greenhouse and hopefully next year's produce will be grown from seeds. With the average packet of seeds costing just 99p, I have high hopes for some extra cheap veggies next year.
