If like me you've seen this And agree with it but still feel a little off put by some of the conspiracys against it Check this blog post www.vice.com/en_uk/read/should-i-donate-money-to-kony-2012-or-notDon't want to read it all ? "The film Kony 2012 began because the filmmakers went to Uganda and met a young boy so traumatised by his experiences that he was contemplating suicide. Confronted with the grotesque reality of the atrocities, the Western filmmakers did what I hope I'd do, and resolved to help. No matter what. With that in mind, does it matter if they get paid well? Does it matter if they massage the facts? Does it matter that their charity isn't completely accountable? Does is matter that they're naive prats who think it's the white man's job to save Africa? Or is that all just pompous hypothesising by Westerners with enough freedom, information and education to look down on a simple, kind act? Isn't it better to just stop criticising and start helping children in need? Or is that the kind of blind interventionist attitude that throws countries like Afghanistan into very, very long wars?"

Poorly written articles like the one above don't help matters.
Charity Navigator gives Invisible Children 3 out of 4 stars. It also give's their programs its highest rating of 4 stars. Oxfam gets 4 stars too. Not too dissimilar then. All their financial stuff is available too because it has to be. Independently audited no less. I read somewhere not too long ago that only 8p of every pound Oxfam gets donated actually reaches the ground.
I didn't realise it'd break out into such a debate but it's quite reassuring. You will always have people on both sides. For whatever reasons, I think the thing that gripes me this time round is that most who are doing it seeming pull out numbers from the air/act like it's something new. For instance the surprise that they pay themselves. No one can afford to work for free. You only have to look at some of the biggest charities to see this isn't uncommon, no one can afford to help long term for free. It's for that reason that I never donate to the big charities; very little of that money goes to the ground where it's needed. I always choose to go with the smaller charities and those who work more on that ground. That said I'm all for awareness. This time last month how many people knew who Kony was?
At the end of the day it's a legitimate campaign and seems quite sound to me. What I don't understand is the out right criticism of it. I've never seen anything of the like about any of the other charities and a lot of the misinformation out there seems to stem from people not bothering to research properly before they write counter articles.

Thanks Stitch, all interesting reads.
This video sat wrong with me for some reason, I know this is the 21st century and there are new ways of getting people to take notice of things which need attention, but there is something about it which just sits a bit wrong with me. Sorry.

Yet another tragedy, yet more suffering Only yesterday I signed up to monthly donations to Save the Children, who do a lot of work in Africa, and already give to NSPCC (won't mention the animal charities ), so I'm hoping I already help a teeny bit. Why do I have to say all that? Don't want people to think I'm callous because I haven't said I'll donate to Kony. Pathetic I can see why it's important to check out charities for integrity and efficiency.

I support this fully.. Whatever you may think of the invisible children, for this campaign to work, you don't even have to donate, just post the video, share it on facebook, tell one person who he is, print off a poster and put it up, the aim is to make people aware of who he is. It's something EVERYONE can help do, as long as they, themselves, know who he is.

This is interesting, I don't know who is right, but she comes over as more reliable than the KONY films makers.
