Just had an email from Plusnet telling me that the price of line rental is going up by £1 per month to £16.99 from 2nd September.
Whenever there is a price increase, they have to give you the option to leave without cancellation charges as long as you notify them within 30 days from receiving the email.
They will normally offer you a cheaper package to get you to stay.
I change my phone and bb once a year'ish and I normally use the "Topcashback" site to get er....... Cash back. This year has seen broadband prices falling big time, and the telecoms are falling over themselves to increase their customer base.
Today 10 months into an 18 month contract, I have got a decrease from a tad over £30 down to £22 per month just by phoning customer services and asking them how I go about terminating my contract due to the coming price increase. I was able to quote the low prices of the new kid on the block "SSE", which will also work on BT as soon as they confirm price increases (round about September foyer BT) This will save me £192 over the next 2 years or I move next time they increase the prices.

Doing this now Update: happy days! Fiver off monthly. Not R8 worth yet but brings it down lower than I was paying.

BT actually own Plusnet. The dearest and the cheapest under one umbrella. What a banana republic nation we have become

I'm getting a whopping EE deal (including anytime calls, 1000 mobile mins and some free international) for £18 a month Yes I had problems with them for a few weeks. But for the deal it was worth the hassle Sqwark sqwark are supposed to be even cheaper! Plusnet are good but a victim of their own success IMHO

I found EE a nightmare to deal with hence shot off as soon as contract ended. BT were worse but plusnet have been good the 9 months I've been with them.

I have had no problems with Plusnet but then I had no problems with BT previously . This thread was just to try and save a few bob and to explain that you can leave mid contract with no exit fees or to use the threat of leaving to get a cheaper deal from your provider.

I've been with Force 9 / Plusnet for over 15 years now... Customer Service has been exemplary across this time, although I know that's not the case for some. I guess the thing that endeared them to me was the email fiasco back in 2006 when an engineer, tasked with repairing a mirrored storage array where one side of the mirror was damaged recreated the live rather than redundant array, trashing pretty much everyone's server side emails... Rather than following the usual <silence-deny-acknowledge and downplay> route favoured at that time by BT, TalkTalk, Sky et al they were completely open and frank about the problem, with both layman's and technical explanations and were candid about recovery, keeping their customers informed throughout. Within the Thinkbroadband rating comparisons they consistently outperform the other main players in terms of speed, reliability and customer service: www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/compare.html?isp_7=1&isp_77=1&isp_21=1&isp_22=1&isp_84=1&commit=CompareThe price hikes are coming in across the board (with respect to ISP's), however a more serious change is the removal of 24x7 support for residential customers Should one move if out of a fixed time period contract? I think probably not, at least until the market has settled down again - then negotiate. If you're in a tied contract, then yes, this is your opportunity, although I'm not sure where to.

I'm also with PN - only problem I had was when I first changed over and the dates got mucked up for the Fibre/Telephone changeover, sorted with a call to CS, haven't spoke to them since, I always take the line saver option paying for a year up front, so the rise doesn't affect me as I have just renewed so paid at the old rate , moved to PN from BT about 24 months ago when BT hiked their prices.
