Thanks for the excellent pic VapingBad , but surely the resulting resistance must be less than that of the inner wire? Jim ETA it must have been painstaking to produce!

Thanks for the excellent pic VapingBad , but surely the resulting resistance must be less than that of the inner wire? Jim ETA it must have been painstaking to produce! No, the outer wire is so much longer and thinner it is so much higher resistance than that of the inner wire res. 0.2 mm Kanthal = 46.15 Ω/m, 0.3 = 20.51 Ω/m Take 1 m number of 0.2 wraps (we will add 0.03 for a gap) would need 1000/0.23 = 4350 wraps and the diameter at the centre of the small wire wraps would be 0.5 mm so each wrap is pie * 0.5 = 1.57 mm = 0.00157 m. length of small wire 4650 wraps * 0.00157 = 7.3 m and at 46.15 Ω/m the resistance would be 336.9 Ω compared to 46.15 Ω for the centre wire, 7.3 times the resistance. Or 336.9 Ω in parallel with 46.15 Ω = 40.6 Ω about 88% of the res of the thick wire on it's own, that is closer than I thought before crunching some numbers and there can be shorting between the outer wraps if you are not careful.Edit: teach me to do this stuff off the top of my head, getting old the resistance would be 336.9 Ω compared to 20.51 Ω for the centre wire, 16.4 times the resistance. Or 336.9 Ω in parallel with 20.51 Ω = 19.33 Ω about 96% of the res of the thick wire on it's own, that is closer than I thought before crunching some numbers and there can be shorting between the outer wraps if you are not careful.

Question please......
I built a nickel coil last night for my lemo drop 10 wraps around 3mm rod comming out at 0.16ohms. Set tempreture to 440f at 21.5w all good nice vapour and flavour.
Got up this morning and the resistance has changed to 2.0ohms and no where near as nice flavour or vapour.
Any ideas please ?

I don't know how to do do it on the "Lemo", but you need to lock the coil restance in when it is cold. 1st thing in the morning is an ideal time. Jim

No, that wouldn't make a deal of difference. The easy mistake is to test fire it and then think " Oh shit! I should have set the resistance first" Jim

Grandad use the screws at the top of lemo not the posts without backstops, post are a PITA when it comes to temp control and NI200. Chances are after heating the atty and wire while vaping and cooling over night the screws need re-tightening. If you locked the ohms it shouldn't change but ask "new coil" if refining. I sand/file the screws when using posts and only for .4 NI200 other wise it's screws off the top. Here's a couple a made earlier, a zenith and a TOBH

Was gonna try wraping a coil round an m3 screw strugle to space the coil with fingers like sausages. Cheers

As letsavit said Also locking the res is not the best idea IMO unless you have an unstable connection, some mods only work if you do so you have no choice, but if you don't have to it s better to let the mod refine the resistance as part of it will be the resistance of it will be the mod and atty and letting the mod observer it cooling allows it to get a more accurate reading.

OK take 2 wrapped 9 wraps around a m3 screw put it on the deck and all tight and secure, then wicked it soaked the coil/wick left it for a bit to settle.
Test fired at 23w all good but came out at 0.2ohms not what I was looking for so unscrewed the Atty rescrewed it on new coil up same down I pressed up reading 0.16 that's what I was looking for, set the Temp to 430f at 30w and seems to be working well.
Sorry I'm a person if I read things I struggle to grasp it if I'm shown I've got it don't mean to be a pita

Oi, Oi!! What am I being secretive about? Haven't had much chance to experiment since my last post, sticking to the trusty Kanthal, but we have a Vapemeet in Camborne on Saturday and am hoping to recoil my Velocity with some open NI200 coils and try it out on my new X Cube II which arrived yesterday!! I'll let you know how it goes (honest!)
