First of all let me say thank you for being there for what to me is a lost/missing pet. If you are unable to give her a temporary home please get this defensless little creature to your local animal shelter asap. They have the resources to care for her properly until her current owner or a lucky new owner can be found. While she remains a stray, she faces all sorts of dangers from other animals and, I am sorry to say, more and more often these days, from cruel humans. Her health is also at risk while she is on the streets particularly if she already has fleas and also if she has not been spayed. If it does come to me taking her to the vets and she isn't chipped, I know of an excellent cattery who will take care of her if the shelters can't for a while. That's if I can't convince any of my cat loving friends to take her in of course, but I'll look pretty silly if she's a he. Cost doesn't come in to it for me. Fortunately she's in just about as safe a place as can be at the moment, a sleepy little village that doesn't have too many children or idiots and she's petrified of the trains so doesn't go anywhere near the tracks, but as you say other animals could be an issue. I'd like to think if one of my pets ever went missing someone would do the same for them and as an animal lover it wouldn't be right to sit back and do nothing to help. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards I'd love to be able to help but the regs state that all cats have to be vaccinated before they can enter the cattery, and it would be VERY difficult for her to live in our house... with our current 7 cats Whatever you decide to do, good on you BrenD for caring... Heard it said that dogs have owners but cats have servants, and it sounds like you've been appointed! (unless you can find the real owner of course) (p.s. We have found Frontline to be incredibly good at getting rid of fleas...) Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's been well known in the trade that Frontline lost its effectiveness about 2 years ago, the current strain of flea seem to be resistant to it, the goto flea treatments now are Advantage & Advocate, but despite this some vets are still selling off their stocks, and dont get me started on Pets at Home advice

I'm a softy for an animal in need too, if that was me I'd have taken her in on the first night, vets the next morning to scan for a chip and if she wasn't chipped posters round the village.
I took in a dog we found in the local supermarket car park looking terrified, her owners had nipped into pets at home and left the window open a bit the dog had stood on the windy down thing and managed to get out! Luckily she was chipped and they were reunited the same day :-)
I always help an animal in need and cats really do tend to choose their servants.

The latest is that I haven't seen it since Saturday evening.
Considering how friendly it was and the state it was in, I'm still convinced it was lost, so I expect the owners found it or someone else has taken it in.
I'll post again (and give it a snack/whack a collar on it) if I see the cat in the next few days. But I'm not entirely sure I will.

I really hope she/he has been reunited with her/his owners. Completely agree Q Frontline stopped working on my cats coming up to more like 4 years ago. I then changed to using Stronghold, but that also stopped working 2 years ago, so now using Advantage that is working brilliantly - for now. As you know, the problem is that fleas mutate so quickly & by doing so can become immune to almost anything

The star of the show, pulling a 'thanks for feeding me, but why aren't you stroking me?' pose.

Back to the safety of the proboards app. The one day I didn't have the collar on me is the day the pusscat turned up again. Typical. I did have a snack for her, though. Pretty difficult to feed a cat on a platform full of commuters without looking like a complete nutjob, mind. I'll definitely get the collar on her next week, I hoped she had been reunited with her owners or someone else had got her to the vets after not seeing her for a while, but that might not be the case. I know an animal in distress when I see one and I'm nowhere near the considering that I'm being played for food stage. As for the vaccinations Q, I had considered that as I had to keep Pele's up to date for his holls. But I haven't got a clue how quickly Cats Protection/the local shelters could take her in if it comes to that. I could keep her safe for long enough to get it sorted, but anything more than a few days wouldn't be possible. Or fair on the dog. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

It might be worth pre-warning Cats Protection (or whoever you prefer) that this cat seems to be lost, they could at least check if therre is a missing one matching your description AND it wouldn't be as much of a surprise when/if you turn up with her

BrenD, I don't imagine Cat Rescues would worry about vaccinations since they take in cats from the street... Of course, there is always the possibility that dog might fall in love with poor kittie..

Rescues aren't the problem, BrenD was enquiring about us taking her into our cattery as a short term measure, that's where vaccs are needed

My little friend has a home and a name, Squirrel. A friend of my mother's moved next door to her owners a few months ago and was almost immediately put on cat feeding duties while her owners buggered off on holiday.
It seems she was crying and incredibly cuddly as she wasn't that used to being outside at the time. Her size meant I mistook that for 'feed me' and what cat is going to turn down an extra meal?
Her owners need shooting for letting her have a litter of kittens while she was still a kitten herself (spayed now, better late than never), going on holiday without putting their cats in a cattery and neglecting them a bit, but she has a regular source of food (which usually includes finishing the food of her Tortie friend!) and some shelter, even if it is on her owner's terms.
Now that I know I don't really have to worry about her, I'll have to resist the temptation to, er, borrow her. She is easily the friendliest little cat I've ever met.

At least (or at LAST) you've got to the bottom of it.
Sadly there are far to many 'owners' of pets who are not 'lovers'
Brings to mind a story from about 12 years ago, when I still lived in Sussex, we kept (and still keep) Guinea pigs, we had heard that the National Cavie show was held at the Devon show, so we trotted off for a day out (400 mile round trip) to see what other varieties of 'piggy' were on show. They were amazing, but we also saw a 'stock sale' (their words) and right at the end of the line was a beautiful tiny boy, a smooth black, with a notice just saying £2 most of the others for sale were around the £10-£15 mark so spying the seller I asked what was wrong with the boy, he picked him up very roughly, turned him upside down and said "He's worthless, he has a few white hairs on his belly so he wont breed true to colour... if he doesn't sell here I'll knock him over the head when I get home" Needless to say "Alfie" came home with us and joined our herd of about 10, we bred from him and he gave us some beautiful babies (we actually stopped breeding when we reached 36 piggies, cleaning was quite a chore as we both had full time jobs) We now have our 5 little piggies and love them to bits, but we would NEVER join the show circuit

Glad to hear BrenD that your little friend has a home - even if it isn't a perfect one. Oh Q I bet you had to restrain yourself from knocking that seller over the head
