Nothing clever about it Karma.. They are NiMh batteries. No stacking problems with those..

If NiMh are safer, why don't they get used more often in e-cigs?

If NiMh are safer, why don't they get used more often in e-cigs? Because they only output 1.3 volts each. That's why I need 3 to make 3.9 volts. A single Li Ion battery is 3.7 volts. Also the C rating ie., ability to supply amperage vis-a-vis rating of NiMH is quite low. A good IMR Li-ION can do almost 10C. NiMh can only manage about 2-3 C.

Plus NiMH doesn't have the energy density of Li-ION.

Both Li-Ion & NimH both have more or less the same energy density Dom..

Excellent mod mate. Assuming the torch still works and your dad vapes, he'll be well and truly happy with that. If the torch no longer works (which I reckon is quite likely ) and your dad doesn't vape I imagine he won't be that impressed? hahaha.

It's a Dad thing Macca, mine would rather try and repair something than buy a new one

Hmm, vaping a torch. Different. Brings a whole new meaning to 'Anyone got a light?'

Its back to the beginnings - the original screwdriver was based on a torch body I believe. I've never seen a plastic one used though Now, for your next project macca I've got a couple of round LED lights. When one of them packs up the body holds 3 x AAA batteries so I reckon that would produce a really original mod
