www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34395034A positive as far as vaping goes is that ecigs will apparantly be allowed. Good to see a Government department doing this.
"Take away one of the few things that prisoners are legally allowed to do and it could lead to a riot.
That's why the Ministry of Justice has adopted a phased approach to the smoking ban, starting with the introduction of e-cigarettes,
and have promised support to inmates who give up the habit."

Problem is they'll probably supply the e-cigs that just don't cut it, but I suppose that's better than nothing at all

Not saying i'm necessarily opposed to it but that phrasing sounds like weasel words. Cue the increased prison violence and a new lot of punishments for smuggling contraband.

There's more drugs in prison than your local town centre on a sat night....!

Maybe they're already smuggling in the good gear?

My main point was that a Government Department is affirming that e cigs are safe and a good way to quit smoking. Attitudes are changing for the better. If it were me, they would not be allowed to smoke at all once they are in custody, enclosed spaces or not.

I think they are having a long change over and allowing ecigs at the same time they are, and I hope it works out..... interestingly NI have no current plans to implement a ban..

I read earlier that e-cigs are only going to be allowed in the 1st year then it's only patches. More money for pharma which are already proven not to work.

If that`s true, it`s understandable if they want a smoke vapour like presence removed from prisons, but turning to ecig use before patches is a big tic for ecig use

Once a few dead & maimed prison officers start to occur it may well be quietly forgotten. Wonder what the Prison Officers association make of it.
