Just got my renewal quote in, last year £238 this year £498 i know I upgraded the car but even so, maybe it's a result of the recent Deer I hit and claimed for but I do have Protected NCB. Anyway 10 minutes on money saving expert and new quote in at £310, happy days

If you have an accident they simply up your premium before applying your protected ncb so you always end up paying more after an accident whether you have ncb or not.

dreading my renewal notice. 20+yrs no claims and before the dodgy accident injury claim onslaught my fully comp cover was sub £100, Now im facing renewals 2x 3x that amount, and im driving the same ol shed of a motor.. if anyone wonders who finances all the cold calls from 'solicitors offices' with suspiciously thick asian accents who dont know the name of the solicitors they are representing, or any details of the accident they want to help you with.. its ME!! and you!.

So what's the point in NCB and should I cancel it for next policy ? Protected ncb is still worth having. Your premium goes up due to the accident but your ncb is then applied to the new premium. If you didn't have protected ncb you would have to pay the full new premium.

Least you did the damage, my insurance went up because "I was involved in an accident" wasn't even in the car, never made claim or had a accident that was my fault in my life.
If I live that long the day I hand my licence back I'm going drive onto an Aston Martin forecourt and take a few out, get my monies worth...!

tell me about insurance - hubby had a small accident back in spring - was not his fault but a bicycle swirfeld out in front of him and off course ran off - and to avoid this idiot he hit a traffic isle - so no proof - we bought a camera right after that - bhut the insurance went up

The scumbags always up the renewal fee and hope you are too lazy to switch.
This year I wanted to add the missus to my insurance, I am with More Than and paid £250 notes last year, they quoted me 270 for renewal without any changes. Bugger that says I, I'll ask the meerkats. Cheapest quote, £350. (More Than came in at £500 on the meerkat sweep).
Out of pure curiosity I logged into my MoreThan portal and asked them to re-quote for a policy with the missus added on. They came back with £165! Boughted!

NCB is a standing joke at our expense by insurance companys. They made me jump through hoops to switch my 25+ years NCB (though theyd only give me 10) from my motorcycle to a car and the discount I received on my car insurance was zero. And the extra cost of not having NCB on my motorcycle insurance was zero.
That why insurance company offices all have big windows, they can see you coming.

Just had similar. Nothing has changed on my policy since last year and they wanted an extra £100 and i did the same and compared insurance and got it for £60 cheaper than the year just gone so worked out good.

strangely home insurance seems not to be so "out to fleece you", my annual insurance premium has gone down buy 20 a month on last years price reversing the £2/mth increase trend over the last 5 years every year I have shopped around to se if I can get the insurance at a better price and every year the current provider's renewal has actually been cheaper than the comparison sites so I've stuck with them.
back when I had a car I would ring up the various companies and give them a figure I thought was reasonable as a current best quote (normally about half the renewal notice figure but never lower than £300) and then see who could offer a better price, never failed to get my insurance for under £300 sometimes with some added perks like free hire car if yours is trashed and its not your fault etc
it was a trick my dad taught me because they always try to fleece you, and it worked extremely well until I was forced to quit on medical grounds some years ago, but I suspect the same principle idea would still work today

Car insurance is compulsory, so they ALL know you have no choice. You will pay it regardless as you need your car. You don't need house/contents insurance by law, so they compete for you business with lower rates.
