I'm having a problem with Avast free edition AV software, it keeps blocking sites saying they do not have up to date certificates, it started with FT, then others, today it blocked this site, I've been all through the settings, put in URL's I consider safe but all to no avail, strange thing is my office computer has exactly the same on it and never gets a problem. I've also had one or two BSOD that are linked to an Avast file (ASWSTMXP.SYS). The only solution is to disable the active monitor.
Any ideas folks ??
Thanks in advance.

ive got the paid full version and no issues here. also this forum works fine on my hospital computer and and if anything was dodgy it would be blocked instantly. im no expert but you might have a nasty on your computer what operating system are you using and also which web brouser. in the last 3 years ive had 2 false positives from avast but they are patched really quick. having a couple of sites flaggin up certificates its always worth running a couple of independent scans. i would suggest malwarebytes and avasts own asw.MBR.exe scan. you can find them here on avast forum forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0for the BSOD run who crashed and post the dump report here www.resplendence.com/whocrashed

Last week I updated Avast free to the latest version and the fans on my PC went mental, I thought it would take off. I downloaded AVG free, disconnected from the internet, removed Avast free, installed AVG and reconnected, all fine and quiet now. Avast is getting too big, all I want is an anti-virus not a complete suite of stuff that I won't use. Sadly AVG seems to be getting a bit bloated too but I can live with it in the meantime.

For free AV tools I'd recommend AVG free, and always, and I mean always have Malwarebytes anti malware installed. I've used many AV solutions over the years and there are quite a few nasties out there that block access to updates for AV products, or even prevents AV from running to prevent removal. Malwarebytes is the only one I've found that hasn't had this issue thanks to it's chameleon feature. On top of this it can be used as a second line of defense in case your main AV misses something. Honestly, MBAM (malwarebytes anti malware) can be a lifesaver when your main AV fails.
As for your main issue, follow @vapingbadadvice and check for updates, also check your own systems time and dates are correct.

Many thanks folks
I've been around computers all my life, so know first thing to do is run anti malware (never had a pc without malwarebytes), also virus checked it. Will run through a few of the suggestions on here, if not may take @sidsut advice and change AV, find you have to do that every few years. For the record system running XP pro SP3, would upgrade to Win 7, but my company accounting software is XP only and to convert would cost me £500 and have no accounts for 2 weeks, also i'm lazy lol.
Many thanks again

PS I'm hoping the black friday sales might throw up a cheap solid state hard drive, so i'll be doing a full reinstall if it does, dreading trying to find all those discs lol.
