a lot of them come with bloatware now which is a right pain but as said, always check the popups before you click next as they normally hide a tick box at the bottom of the text and unless you untick it it will load lots of crap and change your homepage, toolbar etc

Or - just get rid of all this unnecessary software. 30 years on, no antivirus, no problems.

I cant recall the installation tbh but i am in the habit of selecting custom install every time the option is presented which will generally provide you with a hierarchy of software components for installation and the ability to check box some in or out of the plan..
but i didnt install anything other than malwarebytes tools..

I used that link and it only installed malwarebytes, so I don't understand how you got AVG @johanino . The installation had no other software associated with it. Incidentally I'm now using Avira and it seems to be fine.

I used Avast free version for years with no problems. Then I started to get blocking issues followed by computer freezing every 20 mins or when left idle. After weeks of faffing about installing/reinstalling resetting back to factory settings, I eventually found a conflict with Avast and Windows Defender......If i turned off Defender computer worked fine If I turned off Avast computer worked fine. But run them together computer was crap. The problem with turning Defender off was that it keeps turning itself back on and is so embedded into Windows that I don't think you can uninstall it with any safety. So I uninstalled Avast and installed "Panda" which gets excellent reviews.....Not had an issue since! Personally I blame Microsoft and the devils spawn Billy Gates.
