Hi all,
I have a couple of Goblins which, whilst being cracking tanks, leak like the very Devil. I suspect it is my wicking method, but try as I can i can't seem to wick them so that the bases stay dry. I rewicked one of them yesterday and filled with some well steeped Custard, and today, having left it in the van for about 4 hours, almost half the tank has leaked. Luckily, the tank was at an angle in the door pocket and the leakage was absorbed by a wad of Costa Coffee napkins (invaluable freebies!). My question is this; how can I wick the tanks so that they work satisfactorily whilst not leaking? I try not to use too much wick as they then get dry resulting in burning, yet if I use too little to allow for the juice to enter the deck area, they leak like King of the Leaking Things from Leaksville.
If you can point me in the direction of YouTube clips, or have any advice regarding these little bewties, I would be most grateful!
Thanks in advance
Andy B
P.S. - I should add that I think they are leaking through the airholes and not via the bottom fill screw; I can't see where else they could be issuing my prime Custard juice!

Hey chykensa Ive had this issue as well very annoying...So first of all was to check the atty all over. 1 Does it have all its orings glass washers in place top and bottom. are they in correctly as sometimes they pinch up leaving small gaps. 2 Is screwed up tight I have found with mine hand tight is not enough. mull grips or nut crackers have come to the rescue on many occasion. 3 If it is leaking through the air holes then its the wicking im afraid. Ive found coil id 2-2.5 full jap cotton slice no tearing put through and cut off at an angle off of the shoulder of the base. this should be enough to stop the juice from seeping through. Hope this helps.

solac77 - thanks for that, all the O-rings are intact and in place, I've checked that already I always tighten up well, but am a little worried about breaking the glass tank. Maybe I need to get a bit braver . . . I use cotton wool balls for wicking as I've never really got on with Muji. Perhaps I'll have another go and see if I can get any success. Thanks for the tips, never wasted as there might be someone else reading this who gains some insight too

Now the goblin mini is my go to stty, iv found making nice long coils so they are a bit longer than the air inlet helps a lot because it keeps your wick well away from the deck. The wick I cut to a point and let the point sit in the juice channel so the widest part of the point is just sitting at the top of the juice channel and this way works fantastic for me on the goblin mini.

Thanks for this minime, I would think that the Mini has the same deck as the regular Goblin, and your description of the wicking is identical to mine! Just can't nail this problem, and getting very frustrated! I'll try again when I get a chance, and make sure that I don't block the juice channels whilst allowing enough wick to fill the top that ir can do it's job and keep the juice flowing towards the coils.

chykensa you say your not sure about area of the leak. I received a goblin some time back now (great little freebie) Anyways turns out that the ptfe tape that was on the fil screw stopped all leaks. I didn't know what it was so pulled it off. It leaked so I put more and on problem solved

I've just received a goblin mini and wasn't sure as what to build and wicking so this thread is a God send

They leak, they all leak, no special wicking technique in the world stops the little devils leaking, it's just that some wicking techniques cause less leaking than others. They like to leaky leak leak like leaky things. Mine doesn't leak anymore it's degrading in landfill!
Buy a TFV4 /the end.

I must admit that I have a growing like for the good old Subtank - i have a Mini and a Plus, both on RBA heads, and they are both going great guns at the moment, and I'm seriously considering getting another of each as they just do what they say, and if the worst comes to the worst, I can pop in a stock coil

But I used 28 gauge I think. the i.d was about 2.5 and I cut a strip of jap cotton and used the whole thickness then cut at an angle towards the juice channel.

Fantastic tank. way better than the subtank.

The best way I've found to stop any leaking issues is to split the ends of the wick. On a 2mm coil, push half of each end down into the juice channels and the other half upwards. This is much easier to do after priming the wicks with e liquid. A dual coil build at 0.5 ohms using 9 wraps of 0.4 kanthal at 2mm with these wicks works great at 30-40 watts with no leaking or dry hits.
