hi all what do i need to look at to understand how a mech works and what build to use got a tuglyfe on the way with a velocity ordered to go with, running on a eleaf 3100 battery (can use efest 2800 or samsung 30q) need to know about what coils to build ,got some clapton .2 x .5 on way as well thought i read somewhere about battery /coil specs so as not to overheat battery ? anything i need to read up on ? any help would be great cheers all

For your coils look up ohms law....knowing what resistance you have is essential.
For batteries it's all about the amp rating.
I'm no battery expert but if you are shooting for those cloud chucking dual coil fused Clapton coil builds then it doesn't look like you have a battery that can handle super low builds. None of the batteries I have are more than 2500 Mah.
There are tons of YouTube videos for building so get your vape and browse away until you find one that makes the most sense to you.
The velocity is a good choice for building so just take your time and vape safe.

cheers pez ....gerg ...........helpppp not got a clue what that mneans lol It's just a representation of ohms law and related electrical equations. In a mech with a fully charged batt you'll have 4.2 volts so always use 4.2 for V. For I always use the continuous rating of your selected battery, so if we assume you were using a 10amp battery you can calculate the lowest coil resistance for that battery using V = I * R or 4.2V = 10A * R we can reconfigure the equation as :- R = V / I (by mathematical knowledge or see the chart ) So R = 4.2 / 10 = 0.42 ohms. So for a 10 amp battery in a mech don't build a coil lower than 0.42 ohms. You Would be vaping at 42 watts with a fully charged battery - P = I * V = 10a * 4.2v = 42 watts.

Get a decent Ohm meter to check your build's resistance before whacking it on your new mod - less than a fiver from FT, £10-15 from the UK. Read the Battery Safety & Charging Guide.

I don't use ohms law personally. I just make sure I use good quality, high drain batteries such as the Samsung 25R and never build lower than .2 just to be safe.

You could turn into Carol Vorderman and do the math yourself or the alternative easy way is to just look up an ohms law calculator online. www.steam-engine.org/ohm.aspJust put in the coil resistance, put the voltage to 4.2 and it'll show you the Amps being drawn and the Watts output. As long as the Amps aren't above the continuous rating of the battery you're using you're ok Keep in mind a lot of vendors and even manufacturers advertise the battery using the Pulse rating, let your fingers do the walking on Google and find out the true Continuous rating.

You are using ohms law you just don't know it. Where did you get the not lower than 0.2 rule, likely passed onto you from someone who understands ohms law. If you look at my example above and instead of a 10 amp battery use a 20 amp battery like the 25R you'll see this now comes out at 0.21 ohms.

Yeah a mate who does understand it told me that on paper, anything below .2 is dangerous territory even if your battery can handle lower but in practice they don't seem to blow up going lower. He builds ridiculous stuff like .08 using Sammy 25Rs and has never had a battery vent on him. I'm not brave enough for that personally.

You can also drive your car with no seat belt on but I wouldn't advise that either

Haha indeed. He's a mech purist so I trust he knows what he's doing. I'd rather keep the chances of me keeping all my fingers as high as possible though.
