I wonder if theres some higher quality capacitors that can be used like with high end audio hardware, pcs etc, they recommend panasonic ones and have seen gold plated ones too, although those are much larger ones but maybe they do smaller ones that would fit these dimensions. simple answer = yes not so simple answer, the quality is based around construction material, likely operating temperature, device usage, type of electrolyte or gap material, type of circuit, and a few other things. a couple of years ago "bad caps" featured quite frequently in premature motherboard failures (3>12 months and they were poping like a good un) in a variety of electronic goods from alarm clocks through TV's to pc's all made from the same factory with a faulty electrolytic fluid from a "new" formula stolen off the world leaders, in reality they gained access to a dummy formula instead of the new super duper one that saw the caps operating temp increased form 50celcius to 250celcius for a reported 10 years In lab tests, the dodgy batch (in all sorts of shapes and sizes) suffered from 100% early failure rate and the company making them shut down the production line after 12 weeks but not until they had produced and sold so many "old stock half price" deals to electronic component manufactures all over the world, some of them still crop up in new kit and are just as faulty as they were a decade ago. some capacitor brands are a lot better than others and the best of them have cheap fake version available at a fraction of the price often with a fraction of the performance, like most things you buy direct from the factory its a gamble/

would testing an unfried board produce any useful results?? Im thinking with basic test equipment I doubt youd get a good enough result to get an exact replacement. I think out of defiance im going to check the caps next to it and if I can find a cap on another board of similar size res Ill have a go at soldering it on.

After pondering whether to spend £50 on a board that might not fit I decided to take the SX350 out 1 of my other mods that i dont use much.. After much fettling managed to get it all in the case, usb included which is a bonus. The down side, there is no room for a fat daddy 510 and a proper switch. No problemo, I decided to crack on and adapt the evic 510/switch. Powered it up to check it worked and the screen is a gnats bollock to high and I cant move it unless i lose the screw holding the battery tray in. Then to make matters worse Ive dropped the black button and cant find it. I think this mod is jinxed. From now on Im calling it Mod of Chucky.
