Hi folks, has anyone replaced the cells in a lappy batterypack? my ol sony (i7) lappy's battery pack is dead new ones are prohibitively expensive, and cracking the case reveals its a number of 18650 cells soldered together..
SO..... is it just a case of pulling the cells de soldering and resoldering new cells in place?? or is there a lot of gotcha's im overlooking??
TIA

Its just a case of putting them back however they come out, Ive seen them soldered and some spotted. Never put 1 back together tho just gutted them for cells for me torches. Plenty videos on you toob to give you a heads up. ecolux sells tabbed batteries for around £4 to 5 a battery (sony brand). Good luck.

Remember the cells are still useful. An ex member of here acquired a load of old laptop batteries and gave them out for free to members, mine still power my Vamo fine, although not with the life of a shiny new bat.

Don't buy cheap laptop batteries from EBay!
They will last 5 minutes and hold no charge.

Then a month later it just packed up. Know plenty of people with similar experience. www.laptopsandspares.comThis company is where a friend who owns a PC repair shop gets his batteries from. I've had a spare from there that was just as good as an original.

I shall check the www.laptopsandspares.com site out, i did ebay search for my sony vaio 4 cell battery (2hours life if im lucky before it died) and iirc £179 was the pricetag.. so its been running on a/c power for a couple of years now,, out of interest i cracked the battery case and had a look see inside which led to the original Q If i can source a battery pack for £30 i will gladly pay the premium but £179 FRO! (something right off)

This no help just a comment, had a brilliant phone many years ago (sony Z5), battery died, bought 2 for bargain price on fleabay, it lasted another 2 years, then had to go local markets etc, £14 wasted on another months use, it's a lottery, some good some bad, also same story with camera. Point is good cheap bats available but you never know, and remember about charging them, these days rather spend the money

I have bought replacement laptop batteries over the years. Got to go with a pukka company though.
I've been tempted to rebuild one using new cells but never done it as yet.
£179 is crazy money.... as you say. A good one should be under £50. Unless if you have an older laptop. It's the new models that are most expensive and attract the scam-boys.
