fwiw i got myself a Rega 'Planet' off ebay a while back for the bargain price of £50. I sat down with a few beers 'n pals for a vinyl session and ended up cringing at every pop crackle and skip from my 40+yr old collection. I was gutted, donkeys years of cd and lossless digital music formats had spoilt me, there may well have been greater depth to the sound but all the drunken/stoned mishaps which have left my vinyl collection scarred with scratches n skips pops n crackles resulted in a cringefest of disappointment. To the extent i now regard my 5ft of album shelf space as 'object d'art' and a visual record of (bad?) musical taste of my teens/early 20's FULL STOP.. A couple of years ago I was given a usb turntable to record some of the albums I had (not sure it is 5ft but around 500 albums). The odd thing was playing some of a old favs I could remember where the clicks were on the record. The first LP I bought was Autobahn - Kraftwerk, the last Vinyl LP was Bummed - Happy Mondays. There used to be a second hand record shop in Croydon called Beanos. I used to buy LPs just because I liked the intro of track 13 side 2, all for about 50p! I do agree with you , while the sound is definitely warmer/deeper, the crackles, jumps and skips did start to get annoying. Nick

Did you give them a good clean first, It makes a hell of a difference, I had an old second hand album that kept skipping a few secs on one track, it took 3 cleans but now plays perfectly.

Possibly gonna buy one of these, and an amp and speakers ? www.richersounds.com/product/turntables/teac/tn300/teac-tn300-cherGoing for a look in the morn, the specs are above what it actually produces, so unless i want to spend a grand, and I've looked at shit loads of old time refurbed 70's models, that may still need work, this TT works for me?

TL:DR... Are you after a LP record turntable? to plug into an amp via phono? My mate got a Sony one from Currys. It's better than my old Bang and Olufsen.... no joke. (I also think his £400 amp is better than my £99 special from Richer's).Scrub that. My missus says the B&O was rubbish back when Bryan Adams was churning out formulaic hits in about 1985. She's got a Sony.... I call it a conspiracy.

"Not no expense spared is a problem" good old pressing from bands like Pink cloud and such are expensive, new vinyl is £25......depends how much vinyl you're planning to collect over the coming years...? Can be an expensive hobby, more so now days with the "vinyl revival" I would be looking for a good second hand rega and put a audio technica AT-95e needle on it. Unlike the source that's change, vinyl, tape, CD and now MP3/Flac amp and speakers have not...in other words old amps and speakers on eBay that were well recommend in thier day will still be great today.
