did you guys ever see the "test" conducted with the original 3.3v button cells you find in pc mobo's ? the heavy oak desk the pc was sat in disintegrated which was why they started to use mild steel cases for pc's from the large companies, something that didn't change for nearly a decade until the composition of htose cells was changed.
lithium ion has changed a lot in the last 30 years from a relatively unstable explosive compound to a relatively stable one that's hard to make blow up, the problem is its cheaper to make the dangerous versions.... and they loose atomic cohesion at a much lower thermal temperature (hence the detonator in you pocket effect)
as to dodgy high amp batteries there were some rechargeable cells on sale a few years ago that boasted 6ah @3.7v, needless ot say drawing that much power made your gadgets disappear after a short amount of time as they achieved thermal runaway, funny to watch but not so funny if it as your toy that just disappeared in a loud bang and a cloud of smoke ....
