I've got a Smok Xpro M65 which won't fire over 21 watts. I can set it higher but as soon as I try to fire it with an atty attached the display reads "reducing power" and it resets to 21 watts. I've tried various different coils from 0.5 to 1.8 ohm with the same result.
There's a little pinhole reset button on the front which presumably reverts it to factory settings and pressing that makes no difference.
Has anyone come across this and is it safe to use?

Dirt or oxidation on battery contacts probably the culprit.

This may also sound a bit daft, but are the batteries up to it. I have a few blue 2000mAh ones that just wont do high powers and shut down for lower power., my 30Q are fine.

How old are your batteries Harold?, depending on what they are and how long you have been using them the internal resistance will have gone up and the capacity will have gone down over time. If the onset of the problem has been gradual, a new set of quality batteries will probably get the performance back up

Battery contacts nice and shiny. Replaced the Efest 2000mah bat with a Samsung (I think) 2500mah bat. Problem solved.

Almost certainly the battery is pretty tired now, time for a heart transplant

HaroldTheBarrel There is a problem with the M65 and reduced power. I have suffered with it, although many have had no problems There was a long thread on here about it, but I can't find it at the moment. It maybe the battery, but you might want have a quick look at this video - it solved it for me. or search for "'xpro m65 reduced power" on you tube, quite a few videos on the issue Nick Although the video is for the M50 the solution is the same for the M65

TBH, if its working now fine, dont bother with anything else. As the saying goes, "if it aint broke....." You do need to make sure oyu have decent sets of batteries and that if possible you rotate them in pairs. So if you get another mod twin batteries then you can be using matched pairs and will prolong the life of the battery. It of course wont matter as singles.

I do have one dual 18650 mod so I'll mark my batteries and use them in pairs

Thanks for all the replies.
I've tested it up to 65 watts and it's fine now. Thinking back, the battery I had in it was probably the first one I bought when I discovered proper Vape gear ( spookily enough, that occurred at exactly the same time I stumbled upon this forum ) so probably fairly knackered by now.
Very interesting video though. I'll file that away for future reference
