I dont like posting this stuff, but there are a lot of Istick users on the forum. He breaks a lot the basic rules and I have no idea what charger he was using. I would hate this to happen to someone in the forum. It certainly looks like a genuine story. He left the device charging on his bedside cabinet while they slept.
NEVER CHARGE WHILE YOU SLEEP AND NEVER CHARGE UNATTENDED

A lot of people aren`t technically aware and there isn`t enough warning on kit, especially kit with enclosed batteries which when aged will probably be more likely to overheat etc.

Worth mentioning that a lot of mods with enclosed batteries are not supplied with a matched charger and can be charged on all sorts of chargers with all sorts of current limits. I believe an Ipad charger has a 5 amp rate which could take longer to shut down in the event of a problem charging.

he also didn't remove the atty, not sure about you guys but the instructions with mine said you should remove the atty when charging.... so ignored safety warnings and paid the price, you cant prevent stupidity with regulations so the poll they include in the article is rather stupid /

Poor Bloke, nobody wants to see this happen.
As for calling for e-cigs to be banned... that's just a wind up.
No mention of other types of Lithium battery casualties. Nobody is calling for mobile phones to be banned.
Isn't it time the media educated people about charging batteries?

They would probably call for bans of phones if only 5% of the population used them and everyone else cried wolf

My wife was using two istick 20's in rotation fot the last 13 months. Over the last couple of weeks her black one has started to drain the battery rather quickly. On Thursday she went to work and left it on the charge about 3pm. When I leave for work at 4 30pm, my last task is to make sure all mods, phones, laptops, tablets etc are unplugged. When I unplugged the istick the casing was quite warm to touch. That istick has now been dismantled and binned. Having paid about £17 and had 13 months service from it, I wouldn't take the chance of charging it again. She took a shine to my evic mini so another is on the slow boat for a replacement.

Lots of stuff has rechargeable lithium batteries, phones, laptops, cameras etc, yet we don't seem to hear about catastrophic fires with them, apart from the new hoverboards. What is it about ecigs that make them so prone to exploding? Yes in reality the number of failures is small, but given the many millions of phones you would expect more of them to explode than do. Yes we hear about rogue chargers, but not the batteries in the phone, and nobody takes the battery out to charge them, they just plug in and leave. Many will be left on charge all night unattended.

I'll be honest, I often charge my istick on the laptop overnight (I do use the correct charger..leats I think it is (the white one? that might be my phone charger come to think of it not really sure) I always thought it was the shady stuff off markets or abroad you had to be wary of not the genuine ones
