To be safe I would only use a credit card through Pay Pal, the vendor gets no information other than the payment and delivery address

That happened to someone on here not so long ago . . . . although I can't recall who exactly it was now, there's a thread somewhere in Members. Certainly not a site to be trusted for using your CC or BA details it seems.

Thanks for that, just found the thread and they were hit for around £700 allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/55032/silly-me?page=1&scrollTo=952935
Reading both the thread here and on ft, both sound very similar
There is another thread on ft where a guy used two of his cards plus a friends cards for purchases. All three cards were hit
You can only use PP on there, if you have a PP account I have a vague memory of when that happened and customers that were in a part of the world PP did not cover, were up in arms

Well sleuthed Lee . . . . it's a horrible situation for anyone to find themselves in and you've given us a timely reminder of the need to be careful when shopping online.

To be honest unless you're a big business like Amazon you're not getting my credit card details. If you don't accept paypal (or an alternative safe pay method)you don't get my money.

Probably were looking to buy an "Authentic" item that paypal will not let you buy from them, although there are other ways around this

For me from October last year my bank HSBC Issued me with 4 yes 4 new cards.
each time I purchased from FastTech my card was copied and used to the extent where they wipped us out on 2 occasions, all items were paid via PayPal.
The bank always and very quickly replaced the funds, however the fraud squad refused to let me know who was doing this to us, and also said we had no right to know the out-come as the money was not ours it was the banks.
I phoned PayPal and accused them of somehow being hacked that point blank refused to believe this and the bank also refused to accept it was there problem.
So after the 4th card was issued in November I did not and still haven't registered it PayPal, it's a debit card linked direct to our bank... I point blank refuse to have a credit card.
Now I find myself without a PayPal account and unable to order from China, but since the new card was issued and not registered with PayPal and not ordered from FastTech we have had no problems. I have used the new card many times on-line and not had any issues... However we are now having to check the bank account several times every day.

I am not sure the size of the company matters. This is just one example of a rather gaping Amazon back door Amazon's Security Hole

That is very worrying, somehow FastTech were getting hold of your data through paypal - which encrypts CC data. Is that correct Yikes that is worrying. I am considering getting a pre paid card just for internet purchases Nick

I have used card 5 loads of times on the internet and had no issues, but as soon as I use paypal or fasttech then that's when the problems stem from.

@kopiert wrote ( I am considering getting a pre paid card just for internet purchases) How does that work? I didn't know such a system was available... Can you have a card with credit on it but not linked to your bank? I'm very interested in such a way to pay for goods... Please don't tell me it's a visa or credit card as I refuse to have one of them.

I've been using paypal for 12 years and I've never had an issue. It's encrypted. There is no way your details can be passed on to a third party. Well, not unless you're using outdated software with insecure ciphers and even that's a stretch. www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html
