This isn't new! - Why?The Evil Monk has been out a good while, so why have I just bought one? A simple case of a thread on the forum extolling the virtues of postless designs. I have a Mikro which is postless but the design is different from most (the holes for the wires are "sideways" not vertical). Someone on that thread said that the Evil Monk came with the option of NOT using the big-bore drip tip - which I don't like as a rule - so I looked into it and found it was really cheap... So - what the hey!
What I gotI got a box:
In the box was a smaller box:
This box contained an instruction leaflet (which isn't completely useless):
And a bag of stuff:
(Small spares screws for wire clamping, a couple of spare "micro-chimneys" for the air inlets on the deck, a spare o-ring and two Allen keys. Also, the adapter for standard drip tips)
I also got the atomiser

About the Evil MonkOverall, I would rate the build quality as "fair" - more later. Here is the base:
and the top view:
The supplied drip tip unscrews:
The knurled top of the cap also unscrews:
(The threads on this are pretty poor IMHO, but if I'm honest I can't see the point of unscrewing it as the whole cap just pulls off)
Here is the deck with the cap removed:
(The small holes are where the screws to clamp the wires can be accessed using the Allen key, and the larger holes are the air intakes)
Here is a top view of the deck:
The four small holes are for the coil legs (the two inside the "rectangle" are positive, the other two negative). The larger holes with the little (removable) "chimneys" are the airflow and connected to the larger holes around the outside diameter of the deck.
Building the Evil MonkThe airflow on this atomiser is designed for dual or quad coil builds - suspect a single coil build might well work, but decided to go for a dual coil build. Whilst in principle the postless design should be easy, you DO have to remember that you need to get the legs on the coil the right length (this took three tries for me). I went for fairly chunky coils of twisted Kanthal which measured out at 0.35 9ohms as a pair. I wicked the atomiser with space under the two coils to give clear airflow from the outlets under the coil and filled the rest of the deck with cotton. This seems provide for no leakage (provided you don't drip more than the cotton can take):
In UseGiven the pretty low resistance build, I fitted the Evil Monk to my Super T Precise Plus 18650 with a 30amp Shockli battery (the build will be operating at about 50 watts with a fully charged battery). Using the mix of slotted and round holes in the cap I set the airflow to "two coils and fairly tight).
I got a good vape - not one for the faint hearted (I was using 30mg OK Smokey "roll-up" juice) but perfectly mouth to lung usable (in 2 second draws).
ConclusionI would describe the Evil Monk as "good value for money" rather than "quality" (remember my I have a collection of very high quality RDAs) as its build is "ok" rather than "good". It doesn't look like it will cause problems though. The postless deck is easy to use, but in my view no easier than designs like the Velocity... At the price, I would happily say to those who ask that it is "worth a punt"
