I think I probably will never go back to smoking, after 6 years, even if I can't buy stuff in the future, and I surely have things that will last for ages anyway, but...
I don't have much in the way of mechanical mods, and they seem like a good idea right now, and I have never recoiled (except in horror occasionally) anything. I mostly use protanks with stock heads. I vape low/no nic now so juice isn't a problem..
Suggestions for future longevity , and simplicity, please.

In my view - the most future proof device is a simple WELL MADE mech combined with a simple WELL MADE dripper. (I have rather of a lot of these things). Quality of machining and manufacture will be important to longevity, so the most future proof things will tend (and I mean tend) to be the more expensive mechs and drippers - you want things like threads to last and last. Given all that, all you are dependent on is wire, cotton, and possibly the occasional o-ring. i Have mechs and drippers going back over the last six years and still in good fettle...

I should have added that if you search the Reviews section on here for "profbeard" you will find loads of these things I have reviewed (and therefore own and can be asked questions about)

profbeard, Many thanks. Much as I thought, and it seems I must overcome my fear of 'o' rings and fiddly bits; a fear caused by my chronic and seemingly incurable untidiness... I'll look for, and look forward to, reading your reviews.

Quite a few of the mid priced regulated mods coming out of China are pretty future proof imo, out of quite a few purchases in the last year and a half I have had one failure (Smowell DPV50) which only failed due to the onboard charging circuit failing and having to remove the battery to charge (screws into alumimium don't last) .

I wouldnt worry too much, protanks are easily recoilable Im pretty sure there will be someone who will be able to help you out with some recoiled heads come the day. I cant really see them banning e-cig forums and policing them with nazi type authority. Youve only got to search google and there are numerous cannabis and class A forums who openly discus 'usage' which last time i checked was all definitely very illegal. But I could be wrong.

if you like using tanks then a cage mech mod might be a good buy , something like the gizmo as for tanks find a rebuildable you can get on with and buy a few if you go with clones they may require a little bit of fettleing to get working well but normally don't just so yer knows

get something simple like the cruis tank unit (less faff than a dripper you over drip and it leaks all over you) fully RBA airflow unit refilled through the top has a few o-rings that you can use instant gasket paste for (buy form any auto repairs shop the high temp blue stuff) if your worried about threads wearing out then use high temp thread grease like pc thermal grease in combination with a mini mod heatsink (you can get packs of them for under a tenner) as for mod, anything with a replaceable battery and magnetic back plate should last for several years, if the time comes there will be plenty of "power pack" supplies and instructions online telling you how to build your own kit to runn off batteries /
the most "future proof purchase you will need will be the nic base, everything else has uses in other arena's and will continue to be available from the wire +cotton for the deck to the concentrates and mixers for the juice (all are used in food and homeopathy)
if simplicity is the name of the game then download the various programs (steam engine and juice calculator) and copies of various tutorials from youtube on how to mix/rebuild and your set for life

MODS will not fall under the TPD restrictions and even if they did there are some easy ways that suppliers can get around restrictions. There are no cross border restrictions for buying goods from outside the EU. So you will still be able to buy from China and USA.
Tank atomisers and liquids Supplied by EU based companies are where the restrictions will come, including Nicotine Base, PG and VG and food flavourings you add yourself will not come under the TPD.
