Ash lady. (Hazel)
Data shows "the most popular way to quit smoking".
"A lot of public misunderstanding"
Peter Hajek.
A great hunger for (bad) news about e-cigarettes.
The headlines saying this as a dangerous as smoking is just nonsense. Misreporting.
Almost zero chance of becoming addicted to e-cigarettes. (for the previous non-smoker)
Peter Hajek also calls the TPD "misconceived".
GOOD STUFF. Thanks for posting, @paulo

Good little report, thanks for the heads-up @paulo. It's very refreshing to hear two well-respected people speak some common sense about e-cigs and their use. I'm sure we have all received those strange looks and disapproval when vaping in public, and interesting to hear Hazel from ASH state that people just don't know how to treat vapers. Of course they should be congratulated for having, as she says "broken the link between smoking tobacco and nicotine" (paraphrase). Let's hope that more balanced journalism follows - oh, look, another flying pig!!

Somewhat very importantly, I do believe Prof Hajek also said inferred that the people taking up vaping who were not smokers before will be unlikely to develop a habit. This 'echoes' what a good few American Pro-vaping activists have been saying now for a few years. I got pulled up for this on ECF (suggesting a non-smoking new Vaper should not vape Nicotine)
So, the very low number of people vaping (who didn't smoke) are considered to be "negligible" - I've heard it expressed as less than ONE percent of e-cig users.
What this says is that legislation aimed at protecting people from the gateway effect is unequivocally disproportionate to the situation. I am 99% sure the Totally Wicked challenge was partly dismissed as supposedly the panel/judge would not agree to the proportionality question.
This says they are possibly wrong. As a piece of legislation they have messed up, big time.
How to turn this into some pressure, I don't know.

For once I wasn't the only person getting a nicotine fix at the station this morning, I found a smoker stood in my usual just off the platform spot. A smoker who continued to smoke in full view of the kiddies when two young families walked by, while I kicked into my usual routine of keeping my mod out of sight of the young'uns to avoid any questions for their folks. My X Cube is too scratched to really be shiny, but the disco lights are cool Which of the two of us got glared or tutted at by both sets of parents? It wasn't the person blowing toxic smoke in the direction of their children. Not deliberately, I should add. Goes with the territory, doesn't it? People will always be afraid of the unknown. But it does prove one of the points made in that report. Not that we needed it. Sent from my X5pro using proboards
