...and i bet subaru dont make that ecu. Someone like bosch will have. Or siemens.
Yep agree mark. Noone knows everything.
I do wonder...although we are well paid...we dont earn what top sparkys or plumbers earn. Yes they have a high responsibilty job and have to have a wealth of knowledge. But that doesnt compare to the amount systems on vehicles we have to know about. Plus if we dont put something back together on a truck safely then that is one huge accident waiting to happen down the road. So responsibilty is equal to plumbers and sparkys.

Bloody DPF are a pain in the arse, cut open remove filter re weld and re map just done on my vitara but be warned most think the ECU on the grand vitara is Suzuki own but it's not it's a Subaru ECU. Dealers don't know everything trust me I know and this is why the compony I work for exists. So many cars/anything have shared parts nowdays, on my kuga ford say the haldex is sealed for life but same system on the volvo needs a new filter and oil every 30k so i just buy the volvo kit and do myself.

Bish, its a simple con as can be seen with the recent fixing of the emissions. Manufacturers are making the cars so that the following happens:-
Customers just want to drive the cars and know nothing about fixing them. Result Manufacturers make it almost impossible to fix without specialist tools and a shed load of time and space. Result Manufacturers charge garages for the equipment and training.Result Garages pass on this cost to the customers. Result Customers pay the price full stop.
So apart from buying the car, they lock you into paying larges sums for basic jobs.
On one car a megane I think you have to remove the front bumper and grills etc to change a bulb, now that cannot be right as these are replaceable parts like tyres. This is a deliberate lockin by the manufacturers imho

I got hold of the BMW TIS and its electronic parts manual (EPK?) about 1980 in the USA which related to my 97 520i..in some ways. The 520i was not sold in the US for obvious reasons, but the TIS did list 520i stuff that the local agent recognised. EuroCarParts suddenly got my business.
It was the notifications to agents USA wide on TIS/EPK updates that was interesting...particularly one. Stop condemning customer Cat Converters because on return to BMW central they are not faulty. Fortunately for me mine went 15 years without a threat.

I agree with that. Just saying that most people (quite rightly) think they are being ripped off when in fact the profit margin on jobs are waaay lower that you think when you take into account the running costs of a workshop.
And yes, theres some ridiculous amount of work required to do some silly jobs like bulb replacments etc. Thats not on.
I do wonder if its to do with aero dynamics, safety impact zones etc etc that comes into it.
