Hi
I have a pc running on Windows 10 is used to be 8.1. Can I buy a windows 7 pro key and install it on my pc? I find 10 and 8 absolutely rubbish.
Cheers tsoko

Yes but would presume it will need a fresh install though.

Cheers tsoko Win10 is more or less Win 7 with a newer front end for the social/media lovers. I default mine to a pretty much Win 7 Pro lookalike. I did think I was going to dislike it...its ok. And I come from the 1st Windows days and that was tat! Depends what you use it for really.

I still have Win 7 Pro on my main desktop, and after trying 8.0 & 8.1 a few years ago on my hardly used laptop I reverted that back to Win 7, it now has Win 10 on it and I still don't like it, but it is better than 8.0 & 8.1
The desktop will NOT be downgraded to Win 10

if your looking to purchase a cheap legit copy of win 7 or 8 then you can often get them for around £15 on ebay I've had a few copies in the last year from various UK sellers and no problems although for me it was primarily to get the free upgrade to windows 10, the only slight hiccup I've suffered so far was with a particular laptop ceasing to function correctly after the upgrade (yet the other 3 identical machines upgraded without any problems) Bob you might feel 10 to be a downgrade but i found half the problems that plagued it disappeared, i view w7 as win 10 light, that was rushed out half finished due to the epic fail of vista, to me 10 feels lke the step up from XP they should have delivered back then, i also really like Cortana and find it far more usefull than the old search system, its also got a better start menu layout although accidentally hitting tablet mode or alternate desktop view can be a bit of a head scratcher

I haven't upgraded any of my computers to Windows 10. Windows 7 Home and Pro work just fine and if it ain't broke you don't fix it.

Well I don't like you can't play a dvd on win10 and the apps I've tried downloading for it are rubbish. Unless they've improved the apps lately

win dvd still works great, as does nero media player or cyberlink player, and that's without using the xbox video player (although you might need a network connected xbox for that to work)
but each to their own, if your worried about "big brother" then your only option is stay off the internet, otherwise everything you do can be monitored by someone somewhere /

I still recommend VLC as it plays near anything without needing any further codecs www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.en_GB.html and I mentioned before in another thread I have a number of pdf books for win 10 which I 'am happy to provide a Dropbox link to, if you pm me a email address, and no you won't get spam or unsolicited mail or any type of nasty. If the board had the facility to upload the books I would have done that happily.
