Had this same problem with a caravela clone the other year - took some kind gent off here to identify and fix the problem - now having same issue with evic mini
It keeps scratching my batteries (green? 18650) so they end up shorting - I them put electrical tape round them but has anyone else got this problem and does anyone know roughly what bit of the evic mini is scratching my batteries so I can fix it?

if the answer to the above is yes, then are you using the ribbon to lift the batteries out ? if the answer is yes, then the problem is the ribbon, the correct method for removal to stop the scraping is to push the battery upwards (against the spring loaded connector) whilst simultaneously lifting it. although the evic VTC mini is less likely to damage the batteries the connectors can have burs (sharp spots) that catch on the batteries and cause the damage, its possible to smooth them off with a bit of wet and dry but good practice ot not use the ribbon, as to the damaged batteries, you can get heat shrink wrap link on the cheap to cover over the damage and follow this video to apply it with your hair dryer faster safer and more long lasting than electrical tape,

The positive contact (top shiny brass button)on the Evic mini is spring loaded. I grasp the negative end of the cell and use the positive end of the cell to compress the evic's positive contact. The battery just drops into place. The (my) ribbon appears to remove the cell without damaging it. Flat top 25Rs Just my experience.
Good luck I

Good luck I yeah I had burrs I didn't notice until after my batteries were trashed on both ends of one of my evil mini's, few minutes with some wet & dry fixed it but it was annoying needing to buy some heat shrink and having a pair of batteries out of action for 6 weeks until it arrived (yes I made the same mistake twice before I noticed it)

I always thought it didn't matter if the negative (which is the outer casing of a cell) touches the mod body, as only the positive needs to be insulated from it. I've obviously been wrong?

ouch... I've only the one (pick up secondhand) and it's been very gentle with my cells. Perhaps the previous owner sorted any imperfections before selling it on. I'll count myself lucky.

Hmm, not had any problems with mine either but this has reminded me that I have one old blue 25r with a slight pin prick hole in the side of the casing, I'm really careful using it to make sure nothing touches that spot but think I will get some shrink wrap anyway.

well as I said it was only one of the evil minis I have that had that problem, it was only something minor, the danger with the negative end is that repeated scoring could penetrate the shell of the battery and that would be bad (it was making some deep scoring of the casing) and givne the time of purchase it was probably put together in a rush from less than perfect parts in time to fulfil orders prior to the new years holidays, its one of those "s*** happens" scenarios and nothing worth getting upset over /

the nicks are actually in the middle of the battery on the outer casing. Not the + or - ends
I'm none the wiser!

the nicks are actually in the middle of the battery on the outer casing. Not the + or - ends I'm none the wiser! could just be that a bit of grit was caught against the side of the battery after the back fell off when you dropped it and caused the damage, easy way to check if its the battery bay causing the problem open the evic mini battery compartment run your finger along the inside of the cover on both sides and see if theres any lumps bumps or sharp bits, if there are bit of wet n dry to smooth them off, remove the battery from the mod and run your finger round the inside of the battery compartment especially along the edges again any protrusions and rub them flat with wet n dry and you will remove the problem causing the damage spots (if there are any) also run the ribbon through your fingers to make sure there isn't something caught in it (sometimes a random bit of wire will get stuck in that and when you yank on it your scratching the battery) if there is tweezers and magnifying glass might fix the problem (if not a pair of scissors and cut it out) either way the heat shrink layer added to the battery will provide the insulation required and get rid of the problem

I am so vain!!! (woe is me). I tripped over a paving slab last night - evic mini in hand wondering how i was going to make a very low battery last 90 minutes (lower power) and the evic naturally went flying. battery cover came off, kayfun got scraped, battery came out, evic mini got badly scraped Never mind the TPD - this is the zombie apocalypse and the next time the crisis line suggests ice cream for my mind they can deliver!!! I was enroute for ice cream! (I'd already had the brew of scottish breakfast LOL - that's tea for any plebs) I'm ok. Just a few scrapes and bruises Feel my pain - like this -
