OK wife wanted a trip to Ikea....you know like a robot to ensure you see everything and dont deviate from the one way around....anyway....

She like these 2 occasional tables, I asked what they would be when they were not being tables...blank look...... ....if they only tables occasionally, they must be something else.... still nothing....ok, I give in....

Now I asked where was she planning on putting these, either side of the couch, no I said, "they are too large"....then it starts "what do you know I plan everything like this, etc etc". So she storms off and I wait and get the numbers for them and off we trot to get them.

Once home, I drop a leg onto the table and take a little chip right out of the middle of the table (White Gloss), and after that she has spent 2 hours moving everything in the living room to try and prove me wrong and get them to fit.

Well they wont fit, she says they seem too big..........LISTEN WOMAN...I TOLD YOU THAT 5 hours ago.

Now the living room is nothing like it was and I cant see the TV, turn the lamps on or get to the laptop, but one table fits.

Your 1st mistake was having a fact based opinion, after 22 years of marriage facts are not always the smoothest path and not admissible as anything. Just saying.

to be honest this reminds me of conversations I have had in the past with my wife, normally though in fairness it goes along the lines of;

her~ is it still on sale ?

her~ oh well next time it is we can get one.......

or a conversation about some of my trusty old jumpers

me~no I like them ive only had them for 5 years and they've got plenty of wear left in them
her~ but I hate them and I think there getting a bit thin

it tends not to matter the subject her arguments always tend to have that superior point

I have no idea if she would actually divorce me over clothing but why push the issue, she's almost as stubborn as I am and if I pushed it there is always the danger she would dig her heels in out of principle over somthign so stupid its not worth the risk.....

as others have said you can communicate be happy and have a sense of self preservation or you can but heads..... I prefer to be happy 99% of the time

The OP obviously hasn't been schooled in the art of conversation with the fairer sex. The ONLY useful and correct statement for any situation that could arise goes something like this: "Yes dear, you were right. How could I have been so stupid as to think anything different. Next time I'll remember to ask your opinion beforehand."
This really is the only sentence needed for a long and happy relationship.
