We should know what time that the debates will be closer to the time, and should, I think, be able to watch online.

Hi Postmodern Smoking, I'm new to all this and only starting to read and trying to catch up. I've noticed a great deal of information out there regarding lobbying Lords prior to the motion being demoted. Is there anything we can still do or is it a waiting game just now? Cheers

Hi BeOne .... The motion that would have had the most impact has as you say, unfortunately been demoted to a regret motion, as well as a further 2 regret motions being raised.

This is what I can find about regret motions:

9.04 First, an amendment or motion may be moved regretting some aspect of a statutory instrument but in no way requiring the government to take action. This provides an opportunity for critical views to appear on the order paper and be voted upon which would otherwise simply be voiced in the debate. Such motions are invitations to the House to put on record a particular point of view. Even if carried, the motion or amendment has no practical effect: the House passes the instrument in any event.

9.05 Secondly, a motion or amendment may be moved calling on the government to take some specific action. Such motions have been used to invite the government to amend subordinate legislation, thereby avoiding the need to vote on the legislation itself.

There probably still is no harm in signing the petition and 'Vapers in Power' are still suggesting to write to support the debates.

But to be honest I've no idea/experience to know whether, or not, positive change is likely or still can be made.  
Maybe blaze can comment?

The regret motions are tabled for debate:

4th July, 7pm (primetime), in the House of Lords main chamber, 2hrs long, approx 20 speakers

Thanks Postmodern Smoking. I have already signed the petition and got others to sign too. I'll have a look at preparing letters.

I'm not 100% but I would've thought that a petition through the parliament website would have been better (rather than Change.org) as if there's over 100k signatures parliament has no choice but to debate it *unsure*

Yep, that's been mentioned before .... but nothing to do with me!

the 100,000 petition had been going for ages but only 10,600 signatures 100thousand.com/

the above.org had over 25,000 in the first day.
