Looking for some info here guys I've never tried a mech properly and trying to find out if there are good ones / bad ones? I am a bit concerned about battery safety as I've only ever used a regulated mod are there any do's and don'ts? I've looked around the net but only get conflicting views Can you guys offer any experienced, solid advice? Cheers Dave

Do... -Use a reputable cell such as a VTC3/4/5 or sammy 30Q ,20R or 25R. A list has been posted elsewhere on the forum. -Always check the resistance of your build before uuse to ensure there are no shorts. Mechs don't have the short.low res protection that regulated mods do. -Make sure all your threads and contacts are clean, or you'll encounter increased voltage drop and poorer performance. -Calculate the current draw of your build and make sure it's at least 20% lower than your cells max continuous discharge rate. - Always lock the device when you place it in a pocket/bag/purse etc. - Remove the cell when the mod is going to be out of use for a while -Read these forums for more advice, as I'm a few beers in and probably forgetting something important that I take for granted.
Dont -Try to eat the mod - Break the above rules - Store it beside a lady friends toys - EVER, EVER, assume that your build is OK without checking it - Assume that the spring or magnet installed will be strong enough to prevent accidental firing when stood upright.
As for choice of mod, a good nemesis or caravela would be my choice, with a stingray close behind. Also, I would love to get my hands on a good quality phenom clone or original.

Use high drain batteries 20A continuous or above.
If you want to stick within absolutely safe limits stay above .2ohm on a 20A battery or .12ohm on a 30A battery, i say absolute because the pulse rating is a lot higher so as long as you're taking shortish pulls and not chain vaping the battery should be fine with a lower build but i personally stick to safe limits.
Make sure you insert batteries in the correct orientation.
Make sure there are no rips or holes in the battery insulation.
Marry a pair of batteries and charge and use together if using a dual battery mod.
Check the atty for shorts before you put it on the mod, shorts are rare but best to check first.
Make sure your atty has a protruding positive pin if using a hybrid style connection.
When the vape gets weak pull the battery and charge it you don't want to over discharge a cell and kill it.
Keep all contacts clean on both the mod and the atty dirt and oxidization equals voltage drop equals weak vape.

As above really. Avoid cheapo clones as the springs and insulators can be of poor quality. Avoid a mech with a hybrid top cap for your first one. The Wotofo phantom is a decent quality budget mech and comes with a 510 top cap and a hybrid cap for when you're happy enough to go that route. They look nice too and are only around 30 quid

Thanks thatguy Get Off My CloudI've got 3 x Samsung 30Q batteries already I've got a resistance tester and wire being delivered tomorrow The common sense things, I'm good to go Not sure what an Hybrid connection is so I'll check it out tomorrow Not got a mod or dripper yet, so some advice on what to get would be good (no clones though) Cheers Dave

If you're looking for an inexpensive authentic to see how you get on then the Wismec Skyladon is a decent choice. www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/wismec-skyladon-mechanical-mod.htmlComes with a regular 510 top cap and a hybrid top cap so you can use either option. It's only £19.99 which is a bargain IMO. This is the review i did of it Hybrid just describes a direct to battery connection. There is no contact pin between the positive pin on the atty and the positive terminal on the battery, the advantage being with a direct connection you get less voltage drop. You will want to make sure the centre pin on the 510 of the atty protrudes out further than the threaded part of the 510 otherwise you could end up with a hard short and vent the battery. If you look at the 510 on something like a Kanger Subtank the centre pin is pretty much flush to the threaded part, that's no good you want that centre pin to protrude at least 1 to 2mm.

Voltage is lost (lowered) with every connection (unless soldered). Hence the *keep all contacts clean*. This is not a problem so much with regulated mods. 'd by Get Off My Cloud

I bought one of these from Focalecig a couple of years ago (I also have Nemesis & Caravella among others), unfortunately they no longer stock that one, I dont know if any of the others are as good quality but my copper 'Penny' mod was (and still is) my favourite mech mod. No good for hybrid use though
