As the title says.
Replaced my coil in Protank 4 today with Clapton 0.5 (black o-ring). Had a couple of vapes then message came up 'shorted'. Took the tank apart cleaned it up and back together again. Couple of vapes later - shorted.
Tried another coil exactly the same thing.
It was a Clapton in it so replaced like for like. Ended up taking the coil out the nano (red o-ring) and put it into the Protank 4 and no problems.
Would like to understand what's going on. Searched the net to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: I should maybe add that the reported resistance drops to 0. My feeling is that juice is seeping down past the o-ring and on the contact.

BeOne The coil isn't touching the casing that goes on the deck is it? Have you tried moving coils/bending closer to the deck away from casing that screws on the deck

What mod? This happens with Fat Daddy 510 connectors sometimes, there are reports of bits of brass in the 510 that cause these shorts and sometimes kill your board, that is one of the reasons I will never uses them. A very low proportion are that bad, don't want to start a panic it is just poor machining and QC, and if yours has been OK so far it should continue to be so. BeOne IMO you need to first identify if it is the mod or the atty, also at what res does the mod report short vs res too low.

Can't see how that's possible in the fat daddy 510 unless it's a really old one or a fake maybe. Mine are all stainless with just the positive pin being brass but it's all smooth. I suspect this is very much a faulty coil thing, you can get bad batches which seems to be fairly common

These aren't my own coils. They're the Kanger bought ones. The mod is a Cool Fire 4. I don't think it's the mod. The iSub tank works without issue and so does the Protank with the standard SSOCC. I did think that maybe I was screwing into the deck too much and deforming the o-ring and juice is seeping down to the contact causing the short but since I was able to put the nichrome one in without issue I don't think it's that. What else I've noticed is the deck screws further in to the mod with the Clapton coils. Not sure if that matters but it's a point of note. Maybe I've just got a bad batch of coils. The Q code says they're genuine. Once this tank is empty I'll try again with another fresh coil. Surely the whole pack of 5 can't be bad... Bits of brass swaf not cleaned out before shipping, it beggars belief I know, but I have come across a few people posting this happened. I'll check the base of them before putting the next one in but I did clean the first one all over before putting it back in so any swarf should've been wiped off.

Juice shouldn't create a short, water can. Does not screwing down the tank all the way help?

Intermittently fixes it VapingBad but then the tank isn't secure enough for my liking. Have a couple of mls left then I'll be cleaning this out and trying again. Gonna put one of them into the nano and see what happens there.

Maybe loosen the coil heard a little. I have been over tightening. I've been playing with 3 replacement coils and discovered that there's such a fine line between just right and too tight. So tight in fact it's a bit hit and miss. Even just a few degrees more causes it to short to something. Wish I could see inside to work out what's going on. To me it seems a very poor design. When I tried it on the nano it worked first time. Wonder if this is something to do with the Protank 4.
