Wow - thanks for all the replies. I've clearly awoken a sleeping giant! Hi Chrissie - nice to see you again Just for clarity for anybody digging through their spares box - I only have standard batteries so always got low resistance (2.0 Ohm) SS Boges. I did get a pack of RBN dual coils from Jason before he shut down, which I found to be quite good but only after some intense surgery on the wadding with a needle. Pre-dotted are nice, but I can always whack 'em with a hammer and nail if need be. Perps - I have plenty of cheapo Health Cabin tanks which is partly why I'm still interested in cartos. I'm resisting very hard the urge to spend a load of cash on new kit, but the newer stuff is miles ahead of what went before. I'm very impressed with Aspire CE5 and EVOD clearos, very impressed, even though they are only single coils. Sigh...I know what's going to happen now.:/

Most people prefer to see if they have juice in the tank in order to avoid dry hits/burnt cotton = Cartos became almost unsalable once the CE4 hit the market - True enough. But when you punched that carto and wrapped it in a tank - such as the very affordable and simple Boge f16 or f17 tanks - then you truly had something special. That coupled carto's great performance with the ability to vape all day without needing to refill. For those who are considering trying them for the first time - be advised, there was a world of discussion then about setting them up, just as there is about coils and wicks now. Such things as the correct way to punch them: the number, size and placement of those holes, slotted vs round... and the various ways to prime and fill them. I do recall the "condom method" (true - google knows!) was by far the most consistent and reliable way to prime cartos for your tank. And for those who have never vaped with a device that draws air thro the 510 connector - be ready to learn what a "tight draw" is really about. ** But ce4s? I cursed loud and long at the person who designed those horrible things. I cursed the person responsible, his wife, mother, kids, ancestors, pets and everyone who ever had dealings with that horrid, horrid person. I found them terrible. Very inconsistant - with about 2 draws out of 200 that actually worked OK. I'd never have successfully switched from smoking if I had to rely on those dreadful things. domesticextremist - Yep, cartos are not very common anymore, but I certainly was happy to use them for a very long time. They worked well for me. Evods? I used 'em for the longest time and remember them fondly. It was EVODS that allowed me to break my smoking addiction. I remember then as solid, reliable, simple and convenient. That is, until you have a go at rewinding your own coil heads for them. *grin*

Perps - I have plenty of cheapo Health Cabin tanks which is partly why I'm still interested in cartos. I'll have a proper sort out in a while Dom. I'm resisting very hard the urge to spend a load of cash on new kit, but the newer stuff is miles ahead of what went before. Yes it is . . . . but you don't have to spend loads of dosh if you shop at somewhere like Fasttech, which has become the new Health Cabin for many of us. I've got to try plenty of equipment that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise - mainly on the device front. I'm very impressed with Aspire CE5 and EVOD clearos, very impressed, even though they are only single coils. Never tried the Aspire CE5, but myself and friend still use Evods very happily Dom . . . . easy peasy to shove a new ready coil in them. We don't have to have the latest tank widgets to get an enjoyable vape and to keep us from smoking ( Not that I'm knocking anyone who does enjoy trying out the latest equipment - we're all different. ) I've probably got a couple of them, a pack of coils going as well! Did you ever do Vivi Nova's?

This thread is a real trip down memory lane ... Cartos, ce4, ce5, Vivi Nova, evods et al and we have a long way to go before we even get to subtank minis and a half decent vape.

I'm still quite old school in that I love my billet boxes so I became reacquainted with cartos because of them. I even picked up a couple of carto tanks recently as they were such a great price, but I now use atmistique diver v2's which are essentially rebuildable carto's. I've got carto tanks on my provari and its a lovely pairing, 8 watts of faff free flavour! With my divers I just buy fasttech ready made coils (no res legs) and pop them into ceramic cup. It is small and fiddly build but I'm so used to doing them that I can rebuild and wick and have back in tank in less that 5 minutes. And my gp spheroids still see daily use

I doubt my spares box contains more than a very few. I guess the last 'run' of them were vaped in a carto tanks (probably that £13 AGR+?) from Vapegear. Not many plans to go back. Pretty nice up to about 9 watts on an EVIC or SID.

A great little carto tank indeed Perpetua although my personal favourite was the s'n'p tank ... I think markscuba bought those from me a while ago.

Thanks for all the responses - I think the answer to the question is pretty much yes, other than what can be scavenged from old stock and people's bit boxes.
