Out of nowhere a vertical white line has appeared on my laptop monitor it cuts right through the screen and it's about 2cm in from the right hand side of the screen. I've checked the drivers are up to date, installed windows updates, done a system restore, run a malware scan and i can't get rid of it. Is there anything else to try or is this just a knackered screen or other hardware issue?

I am not an expert but if it is always there and it doesn't matter what you open in my dictionary it is a hardware issue

A few things needed here 1 is it a LCD or LED screen, look up.the make and model number If it's the former it may be a loose cable from the board to.the screen, if the latter it needs A replacement screen, so might be cheaper getting a new laptop. Post.back.with the info, or.the make.and model number and when I get home I will check.

Thanks everyone figured it would be a hardware thing, only thing that made me wonder is it just appeared without me moving the screen so that made me think it might not be a bad cable that got loosened when i was opening and shutting it. joeten It's this model. www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-RV515-15-6-inch-Laptop/dp/B006UCNSCEIt's a backlit LED, never mind i've had a couple of years use out of it so just hope the screen holds until i get a replacement laptop, no more new vape gear for a while, bummer If anyone has any recommendations of a place to get a cheap off the shelf number that would be helpful.

if its anything like this then its your AMD graphics card its fixable but needs an oven. you have to bake the card at a certain temperature which slowly melts the solder and rejoins the broken contacts. weve had one person a few years back complain that we set his oven on fire. the numpty put it in his microwave oven

No expert, but i have built a few PC's in my time and it looks to me like a hardware fault with the monitor with a line of pixels out. I dont know about the model you have, but mine has HDMi output, you could try it on your tv and see if the fault replicates itself, if it does it then proves it's the graphics card or wiring imo.
Goodluck
