A little update on my ' conversion project ' DaveJ . . . . . my dog walking gentleman acquaintance hasn't had a cigarette since early Tuesday, I've caught up with today. Great news - good to hear. Well done you! ... Encouraged by that, I set him up with a couple of Spinners, some GS-H3's, spare coils and a few flavours of eliquid mixed @16mg . . . . . he tried the Red Astaire and said, I don't think I'll be buying cigarettes again - this is lovely. Early days yet . . . . but it's quite promising so far. Sounds like a hardware combination very similar to what worked so well for me and that I continued to use for many months after first switching from smoking. (Well, except for the hideous flavours I started with....) Partway decent hardware and a small selection of flavours.... plus support and advice. You've covered it all. Again, great news. *big thumbs up* ** Only one thing left - ya gotta post pics of the puppy dogs ....

I was ever so chuffed yesterday must confess, he's had no cravings - nothing, except enjoying his vapes! Basic equipment by more current standards as we know, but basic is good I think when you're first starting out and getting to grips with the process. ( Actually the flavour and experience isn't so bad I reminded myself of when I tested everything before handing it over. ) I'll likely see him over the weekend - so I'm really looking forward to another update. Will see what I can do on the pup piccie front - both our dogs don't tend to stay still for very long with all the exciting stuff there is to do over the Common.

An update/revisit. The friend who prompted me starting this thread all that time ago has come around for another go. Briefly - smoker, tried vaping a couple of times, sorta halfheartedly, and, due to a number of trying personal circumstances returned to smoking. Well, a little while ago she asked SWMBO about "doing the vaping thing again" - and asked me to confirm what she needed to buy. I got her to buy some juices of the right strength and said forget about buying gear at the moment. I said I've got some stuff here that'll get you started. So, she's just left - vaping away happily. We sat her down to try a few things: I tested her on a couple of different atties for the "draw" she prefers using my "standard" basic everyday juice in each. We then went thro a few types/styles of battery/mods until she settled on what she preferred to start with - on the understanding she could have it all until she felt ready to buy for herself, with the deal being it'd all ultimately be returned when she no longer was using it be it 3 weeks or 3 years. We went thro the basics and she seems happy. Once she's "hooked", assuming she sticks with it, we'll go thro juice ordering (remembering ya can't legally get nic juice from a shop here) and review her hardware. She does seem to like the look of my coupla little iStick30s..... So what did she select from the range found in the back cupboard from the House of Dave? * 4 vision spinners * 4 Protanks (V2) * Handful of Evods (backup) * Bunch of cotton wicked commercial premade coils to suit above (ordered earlier in this thread specifically for this person....) * Coupla "beauty rings" to make the big protank look less dorky on the spinners * Coupla wall plugs and USB to EGO charging leads. AND a bottle of my standard everyday juice which she surprisingly expressed interest in .... high VG unflavoured! (Take that, stupidly expensive flavour juice ripoff merchants! Man - a buck a mil for juice?? .... maybe I orta try under the table juice mixing for some pocket money!) *fingers crossed* We'll see how she goes, but I'm more hopeful for her this time around. +++ AND - on review, it must be well over a year for Colin on the Common Perpetua. I assume he's still vaping? If so then great!

Great stuff Dave. Oddly enough my Australian (virtual) friend who you very kindly wrote a long and knowledgable intro to vaping in OZ for months ago just got in touch with me a few days ago. She too has finally started a serious vaping campaign bought a load of kit etc. She asked me to thank you again for your help.

Good luck to her.... and if she wishes to EMail any questions direct to me, say so (perhaps by PM) - very happy to help if I can or perhaps put her in touch with those who know more than I.

Bravo Dave . . . . . and to your friend for getting herself in the right place mentally now to give vaping a proper go! AND - on review, it must be well over a year for Colin on the Common Perpetua . I assume he's still vaping? If so then great! Yes, a year at the beginning of October for Colin . . . . . I've not seen him for a few weeks, but the last time I did - he was just vaping in the evening. That's enough for him now! No small achievement for a man in his late sixties/early seventies who had been smoking since Adam was a lad - all on old school stuff I might add. So he's done terrifically well.

Yes, he has done very well. Good for him - and to you too! Nuttin' wrong with old school stuff (*) as long as it's reliable and consistent. * so long as it's not tea bag/aquarium filter old!

And back on topic... just received word: two days on and she hasn't yet thrown the vapes away in disgust.
She's a bit of a party girl and with all the festivities on the go this time of year, it's certainly not the best time to try to swap smoking for vaping when you are doing lots of associating with all your old smoking mates whilst drinking ....
I believe she's still dual using at the moment, but she's still making glowing comments about the flavour of her new juices. So I guess that's a good sign.
We'll see. *fingers crossed*

Coupla more days on and she's still not thrown the vape gizmos away. So far, so good!
Dual fueling confirmed (*), but, as they say "every smoke not smoked...". Least ways, she's still hanging in there despite hanging around with lots of boozy smokers at the moment.
*fingers crossed*
*** I know many go this way whilst transitioning but I was not one of them. My first vape followed my last smoke. I needed a firm stop/transition else I know I woulda slipped back. We will see how she goes. I'm not voicing these doubts to her though, and simply holding my 4 years off the smokes (and money saved) as an example that hopefully inspires.

Let's hope that someday soon your Federal and State governments will wake up to reality and stop making it very difficult to obtain vaping gear etc.

Thanks sydsut - I think many share that view. There are some signs our Governments may be reconsidering somewhat BUT I hold no hopes for anything substantial happening any time soon. Governments don't normally about change quickly. We in Oz are not as bad off as some other places that completely ban all vaping and products (like: linky) and, for established vapers, a credit card and internet connection soon sorts things. BUT for the fresh potential new vaper who doesn't yet know what they want or how to go about it, it certainly would be nice if they could drop into a helpful shop front (*) and see the stuff and be guided thro initial setups ... or just buy some legal ready to vape nic juice if you are running low. * Yeah, I know all the stories about less than helpful vaping shop staff from all around the world... which sorta reflects the retail trade in general. But that's another problem

Two brand spanker iStick 30 ordered and winging their way to me. They orta make a nice little encouragement surprise/reward for her when next we see her. Sorta a neat little "step up" from the Spinners she's got at present.
And, iffn she's given it away by then (hopefully not), least ways they are handy little mods to have hanging around - either for me or the next person who wants to have a go.
