hi i wanted to rebuild some sub ohm tanks(esiges everest ones) to be able to TC and after reading up presume ss 316l is best?
i dont understand what ohms i should be aiming for so cant decide what gauge wire to get or how many wraps i need.
i mean if i made 0.5 ohms would temp control work? or do i need lower or does it not make a difference?
i was thinking 7/8 wraps of 26awg with a 4mm core?
got my first boxmod last week after (couple years of mech with chinese kayfun) and just fancied trying out TC its got ss/ni/ti.
any help would be appreciated cheers.
oh atm im vaping 0.5ohm sc at 18 watts with 3mg juice if that helps.

I did a guide in the guide section on how to use SteamEngine to find the answer you want, but you need really good connection quality to use ss with temp protection, good screw terminals, Ni and Ti are much more forgiving. As with all variable wattage vaping never shot for ohms (except for the min max limit of your mod), the board is there to sort that out, rather surface area (wraps, size & wire size), but saying that you would probably be around 0.46 with 4 mm ID 26 AWG @ 20W www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp?mat=ss316l&r=0.456&hfnw=20&awg=26&id=4&ll=10 .

thanks vaingbad , so would ti be a better option or even ni(thought this was hard to work with and tasted bad) My take on them, a fair bit is personal preference so YMMV Ni gives me great flavour, easiest to clean, easiest to make coils and rework with, most accurate in cheap mod, but hardest to rewick coils and the low res is too low for some mods, twisting makes it easier to rewick, but you are probably going to end up using thinner wire. Ti gives me great flavour, easy to rewick, can be used on Ni profile by reducing temp 90-100 F, but the hardest to make and rework coils with as very springy, hard to rework the coil is you don't get it right, dangerous to glow bright orange so limits cleaning methods, the res is still quite low. SS gives me great flavour, easy and rework to coil and rewick, and like Ni you can still move the coil after making, glowing orange damages it so limits the cleaning methods. The only mods that do a decent job of temp protection with ss are the DNAs, but the only recent ones I have directly compared this with are JoyeTecs and the difference is huge in vape quality. I haven't seen anything on the web that suggest that any others are as good with SS or I would try and get my hands on one. Ni wire should vary far less between vendors and batches as SS is a group of alloys graded for hardness and corrosion resistance and Ti grades could vary, but so far I have not had issues with it. IMO if you have a DNA 75 or 200 with a good atty go for SS or Ni, otherwise Ti is probably a safer bet and only do spaced coils.

Dose that even support ss in temp protection, had a quick look at DJS Labs review he likes the temp protected vape, but it only goes down to 0.1 ohm (restricting Ni builds), he only mentions Ti and Ni for temp protection no mention of SS. I would try 0.4 mm Ti on it IIWY.

I have messed about with tc for a long time and never got a constant result on the china mods prob the best material to play around with is ss as if it don't work in tc you can still use it in watts/norm mode it is ruddy handy when you have a cold as you can tune it down easier to a temp you can vape(got one at the moe) have to say that the diff between a dna chip and a china chip in tc is day and night as the joytech seemed to overpower it if the watts were set to high main thing is used spaced coils to start with and ss seems to need less power to get to temp I'm still a nube with tc even though I been trying for yonks with the wrong kit so don't get stressed if it don't work all the time if you fancy trying tc on a dna chip these are going cheap at moe on gear best(have been having flash sales on them for few month) www.gearbest.com/temperature-control-mods/pp_462429.html?hope that helps

the original release didnt but newer versions do. on mine it has the option for SS. The cynic in me wonders if they do this like they do power upgrades in fw to make sure these features miss the review cycle, the power limit is the hardware's capacity to deal with heat from the conversion process and there is nothing you can do in fw to improve that much. I can't at all say this is what the ss upgrade is that could well be legit.

decoy yeh only got the mod as it was cheap and panic buying before 20th nov, tc was just an after thought really that i thought may aswell have go. perhaps ill like. think you're right about ss being useful for power mode too if it turns out tc doesnt agree with me.
to be honest it was the gauge wire and number of wraps that confused me. ppl on youtube seem to have 12-14 wraps with such a low ohms in theres i didnt really get how.
vapingbad i think from reading reviews the upgrade was months later.

Hello . If you wish to use SS, I prefer to use SS316L, 26G, around a 2.5-3MM bit. I like these size coils, as I don't use very high wattage compared to some people. I find these are great for around 40W, and a temperature of around 240C on my Evolv devices. Resistance comes in around 0.25, and I find this a nice area for SS temp control. Between 8-9 Wraps depending on ID of the coil. As has been mentioned, if you wanted to try a DNA board out, Gearbest does do some good offers if you are OK with ordering from China. I got my first DNA200 from there, and also a DNA75. (Hotcig V1 DNA200, and a SDNA 75). Since the SP3 update, SS TC has been great on the DNA200's, and also great on the DNA75. If you wanted to use Ni or Ti, I personally prefer to use Ti. I prefer its slightly higher resistance, and find it easier to build within my mods resistance range than with Ni. It still often turns out very low resistance with dual coils though, but as it is a regulated mod this doesn't matter in regards to amp load on the batteries. I do have memory issues though, so have been moving towards using SS for most of my builds, as if I accidentally used a TC build on a non TC device, there is no problem.

just a quick follow up ....
got my ss wire yesterday(went with this in case i didnt like tc i could still power mode) probably should have gone with 24awg instead of 26awg though and recoiled and wicked an used everest tank thingy and it reads 0.66ohms and flavour not so great but vapes well.
only thing is when i switch to tc at 300f/150c its like sucking on hot coals, i nearly threw up it was so hot and when i look at the display its going up to 40watts(theres isnt a watts setting in tc mode) is there anything im missing here? its definetly burning the cotton at 300c.
watched a few reviews on cortex and ppl have said they had this issue to start with then chip corrected itself, dont see how it will without burning some wicks though.
