Being the ideal husband that I am I took my wife to Boundary Mill in Colne to buy my Christmas present.
Standing outside for a vape I was joined by an old chap who was tooting away on an ego/CE4 set up and we got chatting, he was vaping TW Virginia Tobacco and he asked what I was “smoking” to which I replied Perpetua’s Vanilla Custard.
“Custard,Custard” he cried you can’t smoke custard, you might as well stop smoking altogether.
I took out my Kayfun on an istick 50 and he said it’s those big ones that give off clouds of smoke, you’ll get us all banned. I took a leisurely drag and puffed out a small amount of vaper to his amazement.
When I left him he was still convinced I was some kind of a lunatic getting electric smokers a bad name.

On the positive side . . . . at least a gentleman of senior years was vaping rather than smoking and the set up he uses has been sufficient to get him off ciggies. It's easy to forget perhaps that not everyone wants or needs equipment with all the bells and whistles in order to do this. Although it's a pity he hasn't opened his mind a little further to the wider potential, aspects of our habit and the forthcoming changes . . . . which could be because no one has sat him down and explained what these are.

I agree with you Perpetua ... Anyone who has been smoking for perhaps 40 years or more simply wants to replicate their smoking habit but in a much safer way ... ie: tobacco flavour and moderate amounts of vapour and should not be ridiculed for their particular vaping style. We are all vapers together and should welcome each other no matter what hardware or flavours we use, whether sub or high ohm, mtl or dtl, 10 watts or 200 watts.

Exactly Unfortunately it's sub ohmers that are the ones often ridiculed and here was an example of someone ridiculing before even knowing. I feel sorry for his ignorance but at the same time we all do the same thing but in a different way. Live and let live I say as long as it's not interfering with your life

Agreed @yinyang . . . . at the risk of sounding like I waft around my local Common on dog walks looking for gentleman of mature years to convert, I do have another notch on my vaping bedpost. Collie Clive ( so called because he has 3 collie dogs ) . . . . he's two weeks into the process, took himself off to the only local shop we have and bought an iStick/G.S Air tank and some juice. I asked him what flavour he had chosen, he looked at me a bit puzzled - then said, Golden Rollie of course as that's what I used to smoke. ( Would any of us have contemplated the flavours we now love initially? ) Unfortunately, it's costing him £4 for 10ml so alternatives are being investigated otherwise his vaping is going to cost him more than his £20 a week smoking habit. I don't want this to be a deterrent to him. I agree with you Perpetua ... Unfortunately people's minds are closed about so many things, not just styles of vaping . . . . . food stuffs, politics etc etc - the list is endless, judgements normally formed from a lack of knowledge and the desire to find out. However, like some smokers are all subohmer's considerate to those around them . . . . .

Another aspect of this encounter was that he went to the local park and when he was smoking he had to stop a couple of times on the way there to get his breath. Now he can not only get there without stopping, he can also get around the park without stopping for breath.

Dont tar all of us oldies with the same brush As a person who smoked for 41 years I initially ordered Mayfair, Vanilla mint, Blueberry & menthol when I decided to quit (nearly 3 years ago), tried Mayfair as my first option and it was foul, soon settled on Vanilla Mint, now I wouldn't dream of anything with a tobacco type taste. I also think that some of the sub ohm crowd are giving us a bad name, last year at a Paloma Faith concert in Eden Project there was an obvious vaper about 20 people in front of me, every few seconds throughout the concert he was letting off more steam than a steam train to the obvious annoyance of people around him, myself (whilst still sub-ohming) was taking small toots and blowing it down to the ground, even my wife standing next to me didn't notice

Unfortunately, it's the cloud chasers who are going to fuel the ignorance. People just don't believe that they can't be harmed by that amount of vapour. A bit like the minority who warned against passive smoking decades ago, in reverse of course.

Call me British and reserved if you want, but I'm always uber-considerate of others around me, to the extent that I won't vape with certain people around. I will take myself downwind of them, a respectable distance away, and then vape with short puffs until I've had enough. Don't get me wrong, I like a good cloud like the best of them, but I also get the fact that not all public are as well educated as us! I am an exclusive sub-ohmer, and run my Claptonised tanks at around 60-80w so can compete with the best of them, but choose my times. I was parading around Truro the week before last in the City of Lights parade and saw a chap in the crowds vaping away furiously at a fairly high wattage I would guess. His clouds of vapour were blowing all around, and as I passed by I could see the looks of disdain and annoyance on the faces of those around him. He showed a total lack of consideration for those close by; if he really needed to vape, he should do it in a suitable way. I had my trusty Griffin and Alien in my pocket, but when we stopped at the end of the parade, I walked 20 paces away to a quiet corner before having a vape; no-one was harmed, and I made no enemies that night (well, my drumming might have angered a few, but not my vaping!).

That's just like me chykensa and I know what people are saying about clouds. But even if a 10w little puff was constantly wafting in my face from somebody else I would get annoyed. It's the same old story where a few ruin things for the majority. Trouble is people are too quick to blanket and condemn before engaging their narrow minds

I am still old school insofar as I do not vape anything you can eat, like fruit and food flavours. I have tobacco variations only.
I still regard it as a substitute for smoking and not a substitute for eating. I do not want to vape my food.
