Which Do I Use Watts Or Volts

Hi guys I'm reasonably new to Vaping but need some help/advice. My current set up is a Coolfire IV with a Kangatech Genitank and a 1.8 ohm coil. What I like to know is what is the best settings to have the watts and volts set at, as I am unsure how this all works lol. The liquid I am using is, I think a 50/50 mix.

All help and advice would be grateful.

Short answer: Watts

Then the strength of the vape will be similar between different coils, with volts the power = volts squared over resistance so power changes with resistance.

Thanks for the answer but for my set up what is the best setting (Watts) to have mine at. Like I said I'm still new to all this.

With a 1.8ohm coil, I'd try starting around 6 or 7 W and gradually increase it until you get the vape that you like. The higher the power (Watts) the hotter the vape and greater the vapour production, but too high and you may get a burnt taste.

You shouldn't have to set the Voltage if using it in Power (Watts) mode. The mod itself will calculate how many volts to apply to the coil to give the selected power.

Ok thanks. Its just that I can set either volts or watts. That's why I asked.

Adjusting the watts will automatically adjust the volts too.
As said earlier start low and raise the watts in small increments until you reach a vape you personally like.
There is no perfect setting for everyone you adjust it to suit your personal taste and under a level where you will start getting dry hits or burnt wick.

I hated watts settings.
I Would personally pick volts over watts if given a choice.

Probably, how many VV mods on the market vs VW or VW+VV, only a few hobbyist PWM board based mods (how PWM became a marketing phrase is beyond belief when you understand what is means, sorry of topic it's just face palm stuff).  I'm probably in a very small group of 100% PG vapers, vive la difference. 

More to the point if they are both done reasonable well the vape quality will be the same, VV just requires more adjustment when changing coils.

The way I understand it if you use a Volts setting, then as your coil gets older and bunged up a bit, you will get less power through the coil and therefore the amount of vapour you get will be less. The voltage will always remain the same unless you change it.

If on the other hand you use a Watts setting, the Mod will automatically adjust the voltage to give you the amount of power needed to maintain that level of power. IE, you will always have the same level of power that you have decided is best for you, no matter what the state of your coil is.

I also use 1.8ohm coils and I start a new coil at 4.7W. Only when the coil is getting past it (about 14 days) do I up the Watts to about 6W. Then a few days later to perhaps around 8W. Finally around the 21 days mark I will be around the 12W mark. After that it is a new coil and back to the 4.7W mark.

Volts is OK. You can do up and down to suit the situation in the same way as watts.

More worrying is consigning a Coolfire IV to a life of Genitank action. Those old atomizer replacement heads (the coils) are a false economy unless you can really bear to vape them at very low power.

My mate was convinced he'd be on his Kanger tank forever until I gave him an Eleaf GS tank and told him where on Fasttech to order the coils...
Better for less... every little helps... you can't stop the pace of innovation.

Another way to put it is:
Watts have linear relationship to vape power regardless of atty coil resistance.
Volts have a squared relationship to vape power that is different for different atty coil resistances.

Watts are far simpler when it's all new to you

I feel watts is a better way to control

I was adamant when watts first appeared on the scene that I had no need of them in my life, much like subohming.

Now the vast majority of devices I use are set to watts if there's the facility as I find the vape to be smoother for my tastes, much like air con - there's that regulated power output.

Although using volts on my old Provari's doesn't bother me either . . . . . in reality I tinker with the settings whether they're watts or volts depending on newness of coil, my mood and the eliquid being used at the time.
