As I sit here in Kent with a hosepipe ban in place and a compulsory water meter monitoring my every drop, I look out at the rain-sodden garden and read that this will be the wettest April on record. The council have now provided us with six different receptacles to re-cycle our various classes of waste. One of these is a wheelie bin for glass and plastics, tins and the like. They say that things like yogurt pots, ready meal containers, juice and milk cartons etc must go in this bin. We have a dishwasher to take the hassle out of forever washing the dishes, pots and pans. Where is all this going you may ask? Well. That wheelie I mentioned gets collected every two weeks. Obviously I don't want empty yogurt pots, foil dishes from 'chicken with whatever', milk cartons and so on festering in there for a fortnight. So we now use the dishwasher for the dishes and wash up the rubbish!! In a drought! Mental or what?

Lol, I know what you mean Oneday.
It's chucking it down here & blowing a gale & as you say, it looks like April will be the wettest on record. Luckily, no hose ban here, but as I'm on a water meter, I use one as little as possible anyway.
They have just changed our recycling to 2 weekly, & supplied us with some new stupid large containers - non of them keep out the rain, so the ones for cardboard & paper can't be kept outside.

It's been pouring down here for almost 2 weeks with gale force winds. No hose pipe ban though. Where's spring?

Hmmm, tell me about it, hosepipe bans down south and the damn rain does this to my porch. Woke up to this (see pic) the other morning, the insurance company is umming and arring already and I can't get anything sorted till we get a dry day. Meanwhile, its absolutely hoofing it down and the waters pouring in, thank god I tiled the floor.

I was anxious when they made me have a meter Sandra but I've found it makes you much more careful so the bills have not been bad. It's the washing up of the trash that does my head in!

Yup, completely agree with you, we wash everything as well, as you say, you cant have smelly, going off bits left in wrappers, especially sardine and meat tins, they take a lot of washing, another one is marj containers euck, once a fortnight is a pain, we havent been given bins in our county, its all bags, but like you, everything has to be seperated, takes so much space as well.
How often do the meter water bills come in? When we move that house has a water meter so I am quite curious lol

I save water with a meter because i am on my own, I am frugal with it too, do a lot of hand washing instead of using machine for my smalls, tights & sox, then use the rinsing water thats left to wash the dirty cans bottles etc that go into my thick orange recycling bags( waterproof). I wash up once a day no dishwasher for me thanks, fill 3 pop bottles daily put in the fridge for me and my dogs drinking water. I am already in credit after 6 months so by the year end I should be in for a good payout.
