Just took my Turkey crowns out of the oven - they are all done and now resting whilst cooling ready for tomorrow. I always do my Turkey on Xmas eve in case of disasters and because I will have a houseful tomorrow with 3 separate meals to prepare & I need the oven space. My son, daughter-in-law and grandson have just this second telephoned to say they are on their way and mother-in-law will be joining us tomorrow morning. Sods law is that I have been battling flu/cold for the past 24 hours and have completely lost my taste buds so I have dug out an old protank and silica wick and filled the tank with 20% stronger pure menthol and I am attempting to blast my sinuses clear My son has just informed me he feels like crap as he's starting a cold and my grandson is at the tail end of one my nose is doing a very creditable impression of Rudolphs' so its all ho ahchoo ho ahhhhchooooooo ho urrrggg here at the moment. Tomorrow its turkey & all the trimmings for 4 of us, sausages, Yorkshires, roasties, stuffing & gravy for my son, and chicken nuggets & chips for little'un. I have to do enough potatoes & veg for 2 days so we have enough for the Boxing day traditional bubble & squeak with cold meats & pickles, and there again it'll be several different meals to prepare albeit that both my son and grandson are happy to go with a Pizza but my best mate (who's joining us for that day) has a diary intolerance and detests sprouts so her "bubble & squeak" will just be fried carrot & potato mash. This year I have "cheated" normally I spend today doing the veg prep but I have enough to do without all that so I bought ready peeled potatoes, carrots & sprouts I thought that would work out a lot more expensive but the supermarkets were all trying to out do each other this year so with bogof offers its worked out no different to other years and is a lot less work.

Ditto, wretched cold here too. It just sprang out of nowhere and i'm coughing so violently with occasional killer sneezes and my ribs are killing me! Our veg is prepped but since the day I married my man I've never done Christmas dinner, he does. It was a stipulation to our marriage! I'd personally cook the meat and veg day before but he's very set in his ways but I have got him to pyrex dish veg and onto table as I was fed up of cold food whilst we dithered over who wanted what veg..... It's only a roast dinner after all and we are lucky to only be feeding six, so its not too dramatic (besides chair shortage)

Just worth reminding folk (even lurkers) - if you don't want to be on your own this christmas for lunch lots of churches put on Christmas lunches for the lonely and infirm so google and phone or just turn up Me I've already done the christmas lunch. Tis just me and my ratties - I'm having a quiet one . Fixing the oven knob at 3am with wd40 trying to peel off loaf liner (steamed it off) that had cemented itself to the loaf I'd made (all 2 of them) is about as intense as it gets for me then hit the sales on boxing day LOL and maybe also any vapers you know who are out of basic vaping gear (or might be) need an email of kindness if you have say extra juice or a spare coil? - IYSWIM JAne

Anything that involves other people sounds nightmarish. Tonight, as is my yuletide tradition, I shall order delivery of three takeaways, then batten down the hatches until it's all over. Can't be doing with all this forced jollity with people I usually avoid. Jingle bellends.

Have been out and exercised 2 of the ponies early this morning so they can have an actual day off work tomorrow No cooking on xmas day for me, I've always spent it with me dad, mum & accompanying brother, sis in law etc etc. I do an xmas eve buffet though that we dig into later so that's all prepped ready just to stuff in the oven whilst I open yet another bottle of Gin *hic* Have actually just this second returned from meeting my niece for the first time ever, she is now 20 & my brother only found her 6mths ago so he is having an extra special early xmas day today with her & her partner. Felt very odd as I am not a people person in the slightest so found it a tad awkward but all's well if me bro is happy

I am ready now that I've finished working! A couple of days off after some 5am and 6am starts this week will be bliss . . . . . and having spent this last week surrounded by hordes of people, ensuring their Christmas goes smoothly food wise, I'll be doing my usual semi-hermit Crimbo - myself, vaping/dog sitting friend and pup. We spoil and indulge ourselves rotten, love it! Cooking . . . . is as least time consuming as possible for me, all our tuck I order through work - so all I have to do is put the meal together, once the turkey crown and gammon have cooked. The most demanding thing I'm intending doing after a couple of hours walking over the Common tomorrow, is prising the cork out of a few bottles of bubbles!
